She wears a light green-colored halter top attached to a choker with a metal ring over a black midriff-baring tank top and a light green leather wrap worn over a pair of black short shorts. On her hands, she wears light green bracers and black fingerless gloves, and she also wears a pair of light green high-heeled boots with white lacings that reach up to her knee.
Etymology
Jade's original Japanese name, Martina, is the feminine form of the Roman name Martinus. The name ultimately derives from Mars, the Roman god of war, and befits her role as a martial artist. Martina was a 3rd-century patron saint of the city of Rome.

Her localized name, Jade, is derived from the ornamental stone of the same name, which is used in jewelry and artwork. It is also a shade of green, which fits as the majority of her outfit is colored green. Jade was greatly valued in Asian countries. Confucius believed that jade had properties encouraging bravery, honesty, and purity.

Trivia
* In the international fan poll for Dragon Quest XI that was released by Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, Jade was voted the most popular female character in the game and the third most popular character overall, with a total of 606 votes.

Magic Burst is a recurring spell in the Dragon Quest series. Introduced in Dragon Quest VI, it uses all the user's remaining MP to launch an attack on all opponents, its power dependent on the amount of MP spent.

Appearances
Dragon Quest IV
Absent from the original, it is the last spell Psaro acquires in the remakes at level 60. Damage is calculated by multiplying his current mp by 2. Magic Burst is also used by the true final boss in Chapter 6, dealing between 200~220 damage, which cannot be diminished by casting Insulatle.

Dragon Quest VI
The game of the spell's introduction, it is acquired by Ashlynn through an event in Sorceria. However, in the remakes, it is also learned by Mercury at level 7. The only other way to obtain this spell is by advancing to rank 6 of the Liquid Metal Slime vocation in any version. MP is multiplied by 3 in the original version, and by 2 in the remake, and both use the fire breath attribute. Bounce, Magic Barrier, and Insulatle will have no effect on the spell's power.

Humorously, magic burst is classified by the game as a skill rather than a spell despite all dialogue to the contrary, likely so that it will be unaffected by Bounce.

Dragon Quest VII
Acquired through the Gripevine class in both versions, dealing 3xMP in the original and 2xMP in the 3DS version. In both versions, the final boss will cast is for 200~220 damage. Magic burst features the same properties as in the previous game, and in the 3DS remake will also display a unique animation if Maribel is the caster.

Dragon Quest VIII
Learned by Jessica upon mastery of her fisticuffs skill set. VIII is the first game to reduce the spell's power from 3xMP to 2xMP, likely due to the ability to psyche up to raise an attack's potency to obscene levels.

VIII is also the first game to classify magic burst as a spell, with a special event flag in the coding allowing it to override bounce and magic barrier.

Dragon Quest IX
Magic Burst now has no elemental attribute, and Sages who reach level 78 will acquire the spell. As is the case with the previous installment, its damage has been reduced due to psyching up, and will only deal about 1.5 times the current MP of the user of damage if cast without tension. Magic burst also works if the caster is fizzled.

When cast by a Legacy Boss, the calculation switches from MP to level; specifically (6*lvl*(0.9~1.0)).

Dragon Quest X
Magic Burst is learned by Armamentalists after completing Quest #352 and subsequently raising their Fource skill cap to 150. It deals 4xMP now, but this increased damage is limited only to enemies in immediate proximity to the caster and a lengthy incantation time of two minutes.

DQ11
Veronica will learn magic burst at level 70. The spell returns to multiplying MP by three, but in order to be case Veronica must have at least 64 MP. Additionally, the damage will also be multiplied by 1.5 if the girl is under the effects of Channel Anger.
Dragon Quest XI also adds Mighty Magic Burst, a Pep Power that requires both Veronica and her sister Serena to be pepped. When used, it functions like any other Magic Burst, except it also uses Serena's MP and deals damage equal to 3x(Veronica's MP + Serena's MP) before completely draining the MP bars of both sisters and consuming their Pep.

Dragon Quest Monsters
The spell utilizes a specific attribute all to itself, with some non-metal slime monsters thus being totally immune. Powerful monsters, such as the prism peacock, acquire the spell, though, humorously enough, the basic slime is capable of learning it if their stats and lineage will allow. It requires the monster to reach level 38 with 210 MP and 224 intelligence.

Dragon Quest Monsters 2
The spell remains mostly the same from the original Monsters title, only with a few of the new monsters learning it as well. The simple slime is still capable of learning the spell if it obtains the statistics for it. Orgodemir (Transformed) learns it, as well. It now requires 794 intelligence to learn.

Stub
Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker
Magic Burst can be learned from various skill trees.

* Diamagon III (100 points)
* Dragovian Lord (70 points)
* Muspell (100 points)

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Magic burst is randomly available as a part of the Hero's Command Selection ability. The spell creates a swelling explosion similar to the Smart Bomb item, but will increase in size surprisingly quickly until it covers approximately half of the Final Destination stage. Damage will range from 10.1% to 48.8% depending on the MP available, and at full power the spell can kill a foe on as little as 20%.

Etymology
Madante is likely a reference to Dante's Inferno, considering the flame attribute originally associated with the spell, as well as the hellish damage it causes.

Trivia
*Magic Burst is the first spell in the series to not have a fixed damage range and be dependent on one of the caster's stats, predating the influence of the wisdom stat by nine years.
Calasmos is the true evil behind the events of DQ11, and serves as the game's final boss in the third act of the game. An ancient evil known as the Dark One, he once attempted to cover the world in darkness long ago.

Characteristics
Calasmos first appears as a black Tockle with a small nebula in the center of its body, being the form its soul was ensnared in after its temporary defeat by Erdwin several centuries before the game's story. In his true form, Calasmos is a colossal, humanoid insect whose green exoskeleton is pitted with small craters that betray his otherworldly origin. The connective tissue at the joints is blue, and the head is infantile and almost perfectly round. Calasmos has no neck to speak of, with its head being ensconced by its armor.

The monster's precise height is unknown and varies slightly between the HD, 3DS, and 2D versions of the game but easily towers over the main cast. The upper torso is bulky and fitted with six small orbs over an oval center gem. The arms are as long as the main body and terminate into different appendages, with the right being a three-pronged claw with an inorganic nozzle and the left ending in a digitless stump possessing six bullet chamber-esque opening from which projectiles are fired. The lower torso is made up of overlapping armor plates that rattle with the creature's movements, and the legs are undersized for the hulking body.

Calasmos' personality is one of almighty contempt for being that dwell in the light, and it seeks to eradicate all life on the planet.

History
Calasmos is a being of alien origin to the planet Erdrea, who did battle with Yggdragon untold years ago. Though victorious in the clash, this act would sow the seeds of its own ruin as Yggdragon became Yggdrasil.

Years later, it was confronted by powerful resistance in the form of Erdwin and his companions, and Calasmos was defeated in the Gallopolis desert. It was at this time that the monster revealed the depths of its cunning, stalling its demise by whispering promises of power and glory to Morcant and corrupting the wizard to stab Erdwin in the back before the final blow could be delivered. Though Morcant, now Mordegon, would prove to be a thorn in Calasmos' side in the future, the manipulation proved successful and the allowed it to escape the sealing of its body in Erdwin's Lantern.

During the short-lived reign of Mordegon in the second act of the game, Calasmos journeys to the now-descending Lantern to merge with its original body, but it is destroyed by Mordegon before it can complete the required incantation to start the process. Calasmos' Tockle form collapses to it's knees in despair and remains motionless after these events, with only a long line of ellipses being displayed when it is spoken to.

Though confronted with a tremendous setback, Calasmos trails the Luminary when he discovers the Tower of Lost Time. Calasmos manages to defy the rule preventing more than one person from being brought back and secretly travels with the Luminary as he rewrites time. Calasmos consistently prevents Mordegon from touching the Sword of Light, driving the demon sorcerer's patience to its limits and causing him to abandon subtlety and reveal himself. After his death, Erdwin's Lantern descends and Calasmos makes his way to the desert once more. This time he successfully regains his original body while declaring that all life would be destroyed.

Afterwards, he gestates inside the Lantern, now in the form of a dark star, until he's confronted by the Luminary.
Strategy
One popular favorite strategy for defeating Calasmos is bringing the Luminary, Erik, Veronica, and someone who can poison, like Sylvando, to exploit Erik's Victimiser skill to deal 600% damage. Apply Oomphle when possible and have Erik use his Divide skill for a total of 1,800% damage.

Alternatively, Veronica and Serena and use their mighty magic burst pep power to deal up to 5994 damage in one turn. This will leave both girls spent until MP restoring items are used.
To optimize the Mighty Magic Burst strategy, pep both twins before the battle starts by any means necessary, and make sure every party member on the frontline (including the 2 characters not participating in the nuking) carry at least 1 Elfin elixir and at least 1 Pep Pop(it must be a Pep Pop and not a Pep Pip). Use the Sword of Light to dispel the damage-halving effect on Calasmos. Use Mighty Magic Burst at the first possible opportunity afterwards. On the next 3 actions you get (regardless of who gets these actions), use Elfin elixirs on the twins followed by a Pep Pop to pep both twins at once (note that you can delay these actions in order to heal as needed). Both twins should be at max MP and pepped. Use another cast of Mighty Magic Burst at the first possible opportunity, and as long as the twins' combined MP equals or exceeds 1834 (meaning Mighty Magic Burst deals 5502 or more damage), Calasmos will be dead.

Trivia
* Calasmos shares an English voice actor, Rasmus Hardiker, with the Luminary himself. In the Switch version of the game, his Japanese voice actor, Kōki Miyata, also voices Prince Charmles in the 3DS version of Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King, as well as Dragon Quest Rivals.

The spell is infamous for being used by the dreaded Rockbomb, wiping out whole parties if the player isn't careful.

DQ2
Learned by the Prince of Cannock at Level 28, the spell would slay all enemies attacking the party. The caster of the spell would, as the original name implies, also perish along with the enemies. The spell has no resistance tag whatsoever for normal enemies in the game's programming in any version, giving it perfect accuracy against everything but boss monsters. The downside to this is that no experience points or gold are gained after battle. Beware the Batmandrills and the miniboss Pazuzu, as they also pack this spell, and since player characters, like all non-boss enemies, have no resistance tag to it, should an enemy cast it, it is a guaranteed total party wipe.

DQ3
Acquired by those of the Priest & Sage vocation at Level 41, and no longer negates any experience points or gold when cast. It is also known by the Rockbombs introduced to the series from this installment. The living landmines are notorious for casting this spell and wiping out whole parties when they are low on HP, so dealing with them swiftly is paramount.

DQ4
Kamikazee is activated if someone is wearing a kamikazee bracer upon defeat, but otherwise, no one learns the spell. The scarcity of the effect is balanced by a fantastic range of effectivness, with only the Lost soul, Pocus poppet, Night emperor, Float-o-copier, Sasquash, Prince of darkness, Emperor wyvern, metal slimes, and boss monsters having any resistance at all.

DQ5
Monster recruitment allows for much easier access to the spell in V, and the average monster is fully vulnerable to it as well. Despite the ticking timeburrm and rockbomb having lower level limits than most of their peers, the effectiveness of Kamikazee turns these monsters into figurative Hail Marys when battles are looking grim.

Only the Pink elephant, Blizzybody, Necromancer, Hades' helm M, Hyperpyrexion, Mandrake marauder, Bomboulder, Moosifer, Balhib, Archdemon, Great dragon, Deathsquad, Mechan-o'-wyrm, Barbatos, Bilhaw, metal slimes, and boss monsters have any resistance to the spell at all, less than a tenth of the monster list.
Kamikazee is randomly available to the Hero through his Command Selection ability. Casting Kamikazee causes the Hero to charge his self-destruction for a few seconds, being rendered invulnerable for this period, until the energy is discharged in a massive explosion. Close range damage is 50.1% and distant damage is 35.1%, with foes suffering tremendous knockback as well.

This spell will give the Hero's suicide as a point for the opposition, and as such is better used in team battles. If used in a one-on-one battle, it should be avoided unless the player has a strong lead over the opponent.

Critical Hits are a recurring feature of the Dragon Quest series.

Function
Every time any character makes an attack, they have a small chance of that attack being a "Critical Hit," which drastically increases the damage dealt on that particular turn. Since critical hits ignore defence, it makes them an instant kill on all metal monsters, provided the monster does not dodge the critical hit. Weapons that strike multiple times, such as the Falcon Knife Earrings, can strike critically but weapons that strike multiple targets cannot (Flails, Whips, Boomerangs).

However, many monsters also can get critical hits, usually termed a terrific blow, brutal hit, or desperate attack.

Appearances
DQ & DQ2
The critical hit rate is fixed at 1.

DQ3 & DQ4
Martial Artists and Tsarevna Alena have rate depends on their level, being calculated as Level/256. The cap is level 64, with a rate of 25%.

In the Nintendo DS and cell phone versions of IV, Alena's critical hit rate was tweaked to (Level x 0.75)/256. In the Nintendo DS version, the effect stops at level 64 still, making her critical rate cap at 18.75%; however, the phone version raises the cap to level 89, granting her a rate of 26.07% - provided, of course, the player is willing to raise her that high.

DQ5
The critical hit rate returns to 1 and cannot be improved.

DQ6 & DQ7
Characters have the standard 1 rate unless they become martial artists at Alltrades Abbey. After taking up the art of the fist, the character's rank in the vocation will improve their chance to land a critical until they hit the cap of 1 at rank 8. This gives a party of martial artists a 50% chance to score a critical when using normal attacks and single-target skills that utilizes their strength stat.
*Paladins have a similar vocation trait, in that they have a chance to instantly slay a target based on rank. Though this will not work on boss monsters, it will still slay metal slimes at a 1 rate when mastered.

DQ8
A character will double their critical hit rate to 1 after investing enough skill points in the appropriate section. Yangus can raise his rate to 1 by equipping the Megaton hammer

DQ9
Beginning in Dragon Quest IX and carrying forwards to X and Heroes, the frequency of critical hits became dependent on a character's deftness.

For IX, the algorithm is Deftness/100 + 3% (with weapon skill trait boost). Wearing the Critical Acclaim will add another 4%, and thus the maximum rate is 16.99% at 999 deftness. The natural, unbolstered rates for each vocation are:
*Ranger: 500 -> 5%
*Thief: 402 -> 4%
*Minstrel: 304 -> 3%
*Mage: 304 -> 3%
*Luminary: 259 -> 2.5%
*Gladiator: 256 -> 2.5%
*Martial Artist: 256 -> 2.5%
*Priest: 206 -> 2%
*Warrior: 111 -> 1%
*Armamentalist: 110 -> 1%
*Sage: 57 -> 0.5%
*Paladin: 9 -> 0.09%

Stub

DQ11
Every 200 points of deftness increases the critical hit chance by 1%, leading to a natural cap of 5%. Skill panel, pep boosts and equipment bonuses can raise this chance even further.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Critical Hits are a unique trait to Hero's moveset in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. His Smash Attacks have a 1/8 chance to result in a Critical Hit, which doubles both the damage and knockback. The Critical Hit sound effect from the Dragon Quest series plays when it occurs. His Hatchet Man command in his Down Special: Command Selection will always result in a Critical Hit should it connect.

Weapons
Certain weapons can guarantee the chances of a character getting a critical hit in exchange for low accuracy. The Hela Hammer has an accuracy of 3/8ths, the Headsman's Axe has a 3/4ths accuracy, a 1/8th chance to critical, and a 1/8th chance to miss outright. The Megaton Hammer has a 1/8th critical chance and no reduction to accuracy at all.

These weapons would lose these traits as the series adopted deftness-based calculations with the ninth entry, and would often simply be powerful members of their respective weapon families in subsequent games.

Skills
With the implementation of skills in V, certain abilities were designed with instant critical hit rates in mind. These skills would often have a paltry MP cost, but suffer the same low accuracy as the above mentioned weapons in older titles.
*Hatchet man
*Thunder Thrust
*Frenzy
*Whopper Chop

Spells
DQ9
Beginning with IX spells can also become critical hits, where the spell "goes haywire". This not only increases damage output of attack magic, but also boosts healing spells. If a status-changing spell goes haywire, its chance of working increases to 100% (barring the target being immune).

DQ11
The Zam line of spells have a four-times higher chance to critical than other spells.
