Lamia is the name of the legendary bird in Dragon Quest III. Lamia allows the hero and his party to travel through the air. This was the first occurrence of this mode of travel in the Dragon Quest series. While traveling through the air, there are no random monster encounters.

Hatching Lamia
Lamia's egg is located at a shrine in Liamland. The egg is surrounded by 6 pedestals which are meant to hold the 6 orbs. Once all 6 orbs are in place, Lamia hatches from her egg and is available for the player to use.

Usage
Lamia is necessary to complete the game. Lamia is the only method to access Baramos' Castle, the Pit of Gaia, and the Dragon Queen's Castle which are all game necessary locations.

Limitations
Lamia cannot land anywhere where the party cannot walk. This includes high mountains, water, cities/towns/shrines, and dungeons. Lamia is also not available in Alefgard.

Other appearances
Dragon Quest Monsters 2
Lamia appeared as a rare monster that could be won from a contest run in Nintendo Power.

Dragon Quest VIII
Empyrea explains at the end of Dragon Quest VIII that her actual name is Lamia which means that she might possibly have been searching for Loto after the events of Dragon Quest III. She was named Empyrea by the sages and for some reason did not mention to tell them her actual name.

In the present, the Lefans in Gorges have lost their wings

History
Long ago, the Lefans lived in a place above the sky. With their wings, they were able to live peacefully with the Wind Spirit. However, something transpired among the Lefans and they broke up into two tribes. One tribe decided to live on the world. The other tribe remained in the sky.

The Wind Spirit decided to divide her gifts between the two tribes. The tribe in his sky were given the Wind Robe while the tribe on the world were given the Wind Spirit. When these two items were reunited, the Wind Spirit would be summoned.

The Lefans who lived in the world later settled in the town of Gorges.

The Golden Orb is a key item in Dragon Quest V. It is utilized along with the silver orb to make the city of Zenithia fly. It is acquired early in the game, but is then lost and must be recovered again later in order to raise Zenithia.

Acquisition
The golden orb is given to the hero by the ghost of the queen of Lenoire Castle. She gives it to the hero and Bianca after they successfully rid the castle of ghosts. This event takes place in the first era of the game when the hero is just a child.

Destruction
When the hero encounters Ladja in the first era, Ladja takes the orb and smashes it. This is the final event of the first era.

Recovery
After visiting Zenithia with Dr. Agon, the hero learns that the orb is needed to raise the city from underwater. As a result, the hero visits the fairy castle where he is able to use a magical painting to travel back in time. Once in Whealbrook using time travel, the hero finds his younger self and switches the orb for a golden bauble. Hence, the item destroyed by Ladja is a fake. The hero returns to the third era and uses the orb to raise Zenithia.

Geyzer is a monster in Dragon Quest VIII and is also the first boss of the game. He is a red Merman with a partially swollen forehead that is scarred at the center.

History
Several years prior to the start of story, the fortuneteller Kalderasha had visited the Waterfall Cave to dispose of his crystal ball, throwing it into the waterfall at the end of the cave. Unbeknownst to Kalderasha, Geyzer was the master of the same waterfall and wound up getting struck in the head by the discarded crystal ball. This event left Geyzer with the scar on his forehead and a degree of brain-damage that impeded his speech, making him get words wrong nearly every sentence he spoke. Constantly pained by his wound, Geyzer swore to get revenge on the 'tortune feller' and placed the crystal ball aloft near his waterfall in the hopes that it would lure back the owner.

Characteristics
Geyzer is essentially a red palette swap of the Merman monster first introduced in Dragon Quest III but having a distinguishing trait in his forehead which is swollen and bears a cross-shaped scar from when the crystal ball hit him. His speech regularly contains mistakes, such as, but not limited to, saying similar sounding words in the wrong order, switching the first letters of two words, or switching words around completely.

Geyzer claims to be the master of the waterfall the player comes across at the end of the Waterfall Cave and has a decided grudge against the fortune teller who injured him. When trying to retrieve the crystal ball, Geyzer will swim up from the waterfall, introduce himself, and then question the party as to whether or not they are the owners of the crystal ball. If the party says no, Geyzer will dismiss them and go back into hiding, but if they say yes he will attempt to exact his revenge, making it clear that he doesn't actually know who threw the crystal ball other than their being a fortune teller.

In battle, Geyzer will attack by either smacking an opponent with his tail or by tearing into one with his claws. He is also capable of casting Sizz in order to hit the whole party and will often release a cursed wave that can stun a character for a turn, though this latter move will never work against the Hero. It is recommended to be at least level 5 or higher before attempting to fight Geyzer since his claw attack in particular can easily 2HKO a low-level character.

History
When the Seven Sages imprisoned Rhapthorne in the Goddess Statue in Neos, the scepter became his tool to use on the outside world. For many, many years, the scepter with the power of Rhapthorne was held in the Castle of Trodain, guarded at all times, and valued as it's most precious treasure.

But one day, a jester by the name of Dhoulmagus came to the castle. His deep desire to be the greatest magician of all time fueled his breaking in to get the legendary scepter. After doing so, he was overwhelmed by Rhapthornes power and made to do such dastardly things.

Assailants
The scepter controled many people along it's journey. Each person controled had one thing on their minds, killed the heirs of the Seven Sages.

The first of which was Dhoulmagus who broke into Trodain Castle and cursed the kingdom into a perpetual entanglement in vines and turned King Trode into a troll and Princess Medea into a horse. He headed toward the town of Farebury. There, he killed Master Rylus and burned his house down to cover it up. He proceeded to the Tower of Alexandria and killed Alistair Albert, Jessica's brother. Following that was Maella Abbey where he killed Abbot Francisco. He crossed the ocean and went to Baccarat where he broke into the Golding Mansion and killed Golding himself.

Once Dhoulmagus was defeated by the party, Jessica picked up the staff and was taken over, but this took no effect until the next morning. She took off from Argonia to the northern checkpoint and headed through to Arcadia. She at first thought Diminoco to be the heir to the Sage, but it turned out to be David. Although she came close, she never actually killed him, but was defeated by the rest of the party.

After Jessica was Sir Leopold, Diminoco's beloved dog. He killed David, then flew off north to the Blizzard Peaks where he was targeting Marek, but discovered that it was Marek's mother, Marta, that was the heir and killed her. He then went off to the the Lord High Preist's Residence to attemt to kill the Lord High Preist himself, but was defeated bofore he could do so.

Finally, Marcello took the scepter and killed the Lord High Preist, making it look like he died from shock while also sending of his successor, High Preist Rolo, to Purgatory Island. Marcello was defeated at Neos and the scepter's hold over him was broken, but with the heirs of the Seven Sages killed and the Goddess Statue destroyed, Rhapthorne was free from his prison.
The metal slime (sometimes Metaly due to display constraints) is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series. Introduced in the original game, it is a slime with a metallic body

Characteristics
As far as appearances go, the metal slime is nearly identical to a normal slime, with its only notable differences being its gray coloring and metallic luster.

Metal slimes are infamous monsters in the series, and for a good reason: they have one of the highest experience point payouts of any enemy in the games, exceeded only by far stronger monsters and other metal monsters; even some bosses pay out less than a single metal slime does. This comes at a catch, however: metal slimes rarely appear, and when they do appear they usually run in an instant, often without a scratch due to a very high speed stat. Even if the player gets lucky and a metal slime or two decide to stick around for a turn, nearly all normal attacks will either miss or do a measly 1 point of damage, though their low HP means every hit counts. Nearly all forms of spell and skill are completely ineffective against metal slimes. There are very few exceptions to this.
