Characteristics
Lips appear as odd, upright slugs with small arms, large lips, and what appears to be a pronounced lower jaw. The lips of lips also work to conceal a very long tongue, which the lips can also use in combat. Their underbellies and arms are a peachy shade while the rest of their sluggish form is green and, much like real slugs, spotted.
The Chimaera (originally Wyvern) is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series. Introduced in the original game, it is a monster with the body of a serpent and the wings and head of a bird.

Characteristics
The standard Chimaera has what appears to be a vulture's head, featherless, with a ring of downy feathers around its neck. Its body is serpentine but also somewhat bloated, making it look more grub-like than snake-like. Its wings are feathered and constantly beat to keep the creature airborne.

Having appeared many times throughout the series, Chimaeras have proven themselves to be formidable creatures, often having great potential for strength, magic, and natural skills such as breathing fire and ice. They can be terrible creatures to face in battle and terrific allies to fight alongside when they are not enemies.

Synopsis
The Fire Giant is a monster found in Mt. Flame in Engow. It collects the flame that the residents are throwing into the volcano as part of a plan to destroy the continent by causing an eruption. The party encounters him and he decides to destroy them. After he is defeated, the Fire Giant claims that his plan will still come to fruition as a black smoke rises from the vase that he was collecting the flames. However, the party uses the Holy Water given to them by Hondara and avert the crisis.

Strategy
The Fire Giant's regular attack does ~15 HP if the party is properly equipped. He can charge the party which hits everyone, causing ~10 damage to everyone. FireAir will cause ~10 flame damage to everyone as well. Its most devastating attack is Chargeup where it will take a turn to charge up an attack. Its next attack will do double damage, depending on the attack it uses. The Fire Giant is resistant to flame attacks. So the player is advised not to use Kiefer's FireSlash and Maribel's Blaze.

Maribel should use Sap twice to remove its defenses. The Hero should use Upper on the party. Kiefer and the Hero should attack while Maribel should be the designated healer, attacking only when the party isn't hurting for heath. When the Fire Giant uses ChargeUp, the party should parry to lessen the damage done by the next attack.

As long as the party's health is sufficent, there should be no problem defeating the Fire Giant.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker is the first game in the Dragon Quest Monsters series to be in 3D, and the first game developed by TOSE. It uses the Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King game engine out of battle, uses cel-shaded animation, and the battles are of the same type: commands are issued in a turn based style, then are executed in full 3D.

The battle system itself is very similar to previous Dragon Quest Monsters games. The player controls up to three monsters that make up the party, and can issue them direct orders or set them to one of 5 AI settings. The main character does not directly participate in battles except for when the player uses items.

Joker does not have random battles. The only way to encounter enemies is to run into one on the overworld. The monsters can be seen, avoided, and attacked from their back to get a free attack round. Later on, the player gets the Whistle ability. This can be used at any time, other than in the city and where monsters don't appear, and in a way does count as a random battle as the enemies are randomly chosen.

The game takes place in the region known as Green Bays, consisting of seven islands. A jet-ski is used to travel from one island to another, with specific paths defined for every couple of piers. However, the main character may notice uncharted islands beyond some of the main islands. The chances for this are completely random and are not located on the main map

Wi-Fi
The game also has a Nintendo Wi-Fi element. The player connects to the server, and their monster team is ranked. The DS then downloads a set of opponents to battle. The battles are against the monster teams of higher and higher ranked other players. For each battle you win, you get a reward, either an item or a monster. These rewards change daily and can range from unexciting items to rare monsters such as liquid metal slimes. This feature is designed to be used once per day. The player can only fight one set of opponents, and get a reward once each day.

Monsters
The player gets more monsters by scouting them. Unlike previous games in the series, this is a battle command, and not the result of using items in battle. You can make as many scouting attempts as you want during a battle, until the monster decides to join, or takes offense. Success depends on the relative strengths of the monsters making the attempt versus the relative defense of the monster that is being scouted.

The monster families have been rearranged into a different categorization, so some monsters are in different families than they were on previous Dragon Quest Monsters games:

*Slime (スライム, suraimu).
*Dragon (ドラゴン, doragon).
*Nature (しぜん, shizen).
*Beast (まじゅう, majuu).
*Material (ぶっしつ, busshitsu).
*Demon (あくま, akuma).
*Undead (ゾンビ, zonbi).
*Incarni (しんじゅう, Shinjuu).

Unlike previous games in the series, there is not a Boss family. The Boss monsters (end game, or powerful bosses from Dragon Quest games) have been merged with the other families. For example, Zoma is now in the Demon family.

Monsters now all have a rank associated with them: F, E, D, C, B, A, S, and X. The ranks give an idea of how quickly the monster's stats will grow, and how hard they are to get/synthesize. There are 210 different monsters, though some are just color swaps of others, with different stats.

There are three monsters, Trode (トロデ, Torode), Leopold (レオパルド, Reoparudo), and Empyrea (レティス, Retisu) that can not be scouted or bred in the normal game. The only way to get these monsters is to visit a DS Station in Japan or to cheat.[6] There, one can use the games' Wireless mode to fight against these monsters and attempt to scout them. Leopard and Empyrea are required in order to synthesize the main monster into its final forms. An alternate means is to obtain all other monsters and all of the possible skills.

Claymore is a character in Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors, the Hero's father. During the initial mission to Secace Seacove and if the player elects to have him accompany him, Claymore acts as a support character, casting healing spells on the Hero and himself and occasionally attacking with magic. He initially knows spells with a bent towards attack magic, such as Crack.

Appearance and Personality
As a very laid-back person, Claymore dresses quite simply. He always has a sword by his side in spite of not being able to use it to full effect. Having lost his right arm, he has replaced it with a metal, armour-like prosthetic akin to something like cybernetics.

Claymore is known as a bit of a hard drinker and a lady's man. Whereas the other support character shout words of encouragement to the Hero during battle, Claymore yells instructions and mild admonishment.

Story
Many years prior to the beginning of the game, Claymore was known as an exceptional swordsman, and was among those who originally took down Xiphos the Deathbringer; however, in the intervening time he lost his right arm in battle, and though he replaced it with a sort of semi-robotic prosthetic, he lost the dexterity to correctly wield a sword. Rather than become depressed about it, he put his energies towards learning magic instead.

When Prince Anlace approaches him looking for an escort to go and check up on the state of his insane mother in her hideaway, Claymore refuses, but, seeing that he'll go whether he has a bodyguard or not, advises the Hero to go with him instead. Later, when rumours of monster attacks at Secace Seacove come to light, he makes the decision to go investigate for himself, bringing the Hero along with him. After this, Claymore realises that something very grave is going on in the world, and joins the party. He travels faithfully with them right up to their confrontation with Xiphos the Deathbringer.
In keeping with the Dragon Quest Swords quirk of all characters being named after a type of sword, a claymore refers to either a two-handed cross-hilt used by the Highlanders of Scotland, or to a basket-hilted broadsword adopted in the 16th Century.

Fleurette is a character in Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors. During the initial mission to Arondight Heights and if the player elects to have her accompany him, Fleurette acts as a support character, casting healing spells on the Hero and herself and occasionally attacking with magic. She initially knows spells with a bent towards support magic, such as Magnishield and Squelch.

Appearance and Personality
Fleurette's clothing somewhat resembles attire typical to the "Gothic lolita" fashion trend.

Though wracked with the pain of her brother's predicament, Fleurette is generally a very cheerful and upbeat person. She is also very flirtatious towards the Hero, and several characters make allusions to the affect that they would make a good couple.

Although she asks for the Hero's name upon their first meeting, she dismisses it almost immediately and announces that she will address him by Blade, the nickname she gives him on the spot. Although this says something about her character, its true purpose is to allow her to voice the Hero's name, which would be impossible to do with the one given to him by the player.

Story
When she was younger, Fleurette intended to become a nun at the Church of the Goddess, but left when her brother Aruval disappeared. The Hero and Anlace encounter her in Galantyne Glades in Queen Curtana's service, and after hearing their concerns over the Queen's health, Fleurette remembers a tableau she saw on the side of a mountain as a child that may provide some information. She and the Hero travel to the lookout point of Arondight Heights where, after helping the Hero defeat the Emissary of Xiphos, Fleurette explains that the tableau depicts the four heroes defeating Xiphos the Deathbringer not so long ago.

Fleurette continues to accompany the party for the rest of the game. When rumours of monster attacks at Secace Seacove emerge, the party, chiefly the Hero and his father Claymore, move to investigate. They discover the monster and defeat it, but Fleurette runs in front of the Hero, forcing him to stay the killing blow - almost in tears, Fleurette reveals that the monster is her brother, Aruval, transformed by evil magic.

After the party finally succeeds in killing Xiphos, Fleurette's true feelings shine through in her speech to the Hero when she catches him and prevents his falling into a lake of lava:

:I will never let you go, Blade! Not ever!

This supports her behaviour throughout the rest of the game, in which she is extremely flirtatious towards the Hero.

After Xiphos's defeat, Fleurette resolves to return to the Church, though what this means for their relationship is unknown.
Trivia
In keeping with the Dragon Quest Swords quirk of all characters being named after a type of sword, a fleurette is a kind of thin, light sword used for fencing.

Oddly, her dismissal of the Hero's real name and insistence on the nickname "Blade" technically makes Fleurette the first character in a Dragon Quest game to address a Hero by name.
Prince Anlace is a character in Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors. During the initial mission to Galantyne Glades and if the player elects to have him accompany him, Anlace acts a support character, casting healing spells on the Hero and himself or occasionally attacking the enemy with magic. He initially knows a balanced variety of spells.

Appearance and Personality
As royalty, Anlace dresses in great finery. He carries a rapier for self-defence, though he never uses it in-game. Though anything but a snob, Anlace's upbringing has caused him to speak with great politeness at all times.

Story
At the beginning of the game, Anlace is extremely concerned for his mother's health, as she has been behaving oddly and taken to wearing a strange mask on her face at all times. He tries unsuccessfully to enlist local hero Claymore to escort him to his mother's getaway cabin, then appeals to the Hero, who accepts. After discovering that his mother does indeed have something gravely wrong with her, Anlace joins the party. He travels faithfully with them right up to their confrontation with Xiphos the Deathbringer.
The Hero of Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors is a 16-year-old young man renowned for his exceptional swordfighting skills. Throughout the game, he becomes steadily stronger and more skilled, ultimately taking on Xiphos the Deathbringer.

The Hero is one of the only people in the world capable of performing Master Strokes.

As with all Heroes in the Dragon Quest series, the Hero has no default name, and receives one nominated by the player at the beginning of the game. Additionally, the player will then choose the Hero's handedness, which affects his appearance in cut-scenes and FMVs.

In keeping with the Dragon Quest Swords quirk of all characters being named after a sword, Fleurette nicknames the Hero "Blade."

Story
Five years ago, there was a great war between man and an evil demon known as Xiphos, the Death Bringer. Through many hardships, man was able to defeat Xiphos. Five years later, the Hero and son of Claymore, who was one of the warriors who fought Xiphos, turned sixteen and was chosen to go through a trial to become a warrior. He succeeds in the tasks and the next day, Prince Anlace asks the Hero to accompany him through the Galantyne Glades, where he saw his mother, the Queen, head off to. There, the Hero defeats Briquet, and proceeds towards a hut, where the Queen is seen wearing a strange mask. She walks away without saying a word. they also meet Fleurette, whose brother fought in the war against Xiphos. She mentions she saw the mask the Queen was wearing as a child. She heads to town and the next day, accompanies you to Arondight Heights to show you something. After defeating the Envoy of Xiphos, she shows you a carving on a mountainside of a battle against Xiphos, who was wearing the same mask the Queen was wearing. Fleurette explains that the war against Xiphos five years ago was not the first war against him. She deduces that the mask has Xiphos's spirit and is possessing the Queen. They head back to town and the next day, Claymore mentions that there was reports of a monster in the Secace Seacove. After beating the monster, Fleurette arrives to defend the monster from the Hero's finishing blow. She says that the monster is really her brother. The creature escapes into the water. the group leaves and learns that the Queen was seen at the Tower of Mirrors. When they reach the top of the tower, they battle and defeat Grobmesser. They get to the Queen who has activated a portal in a mirror. The Hero slashes the mask in half, hoping to save the Queen. However, it is revealed, that the mask does not contain Xiphos's soul, but it actually weakened the demon. Xiphos appears in the portal, revealing that although, his body was destroyed five years ago, only the mask could truly destroy him forever. He mocks the Hero saying he destroyed the only means to defeat him. They take the Queen home when a mountain near Mount Arondight collapsed in a sea of lava and a castle rose up in its place. They know that without the mask, Xiphos can't be defeated. Dao , an old swordmaster, explains that the mask was made in the Mirror World and if the mask is to be repaired, they must enter the dimension by heading for the Tower of Mirrors. They make their way through the dimension and battle Draug. After beating him, he reveals he's a good guy and not only repairs the mask, but he also gives the Hero the Rednusadner, a powerful Blade that can hurt Xiphos and help them get to his castle. The Hero goes to Swordmaster Dao who teaches him the Figure of Fate, a legendary technique of the Rednusadner that created splits the sea of lava that surrounds the castle. After crossing the path, they encounter Golok the Gatekeeper, who the team defeats. After entering the castle and fighting many tough enemies, they make their way to Xiphos's throne room. They also find Fleurette's brother in the middle of the room. Xiphos enters her brother's body and gets his body back. He then engages the Hero in combat. After defeating Xiphos, the demon admits he underestimated the group. He turns into his true form, which looked nothing like the carving. Though it is a tough fight, the Hero subdues the demon long enough for the mask to place itself on Xiphos. The mask petrifies the demon and the Hero shatters the statue, destroying Xiphos for good. Fleurette's brother appears out of the rubble, now completely human. With Xiphos dead for all time, his castle starts to crumble down. Everyone tries to get out of the throne room when the Hero fall down the pit. Fleurette grabs him and the others pull him up. Back at the town's castle, a great party is held in the Hero's honor. He makes his way to a balcony and raises the Rednusadner to the sky, causing all the citizens to cheer.
The hero of Dragon Quest IX is a male or female who was originally a Celestrian. The hero's mission was to collect benevolessences (star auras in the Japanese version) to power Yggdrasil. The Celestrians are trying to get into God's Land, and powering the World Tree is the only way. After giving the tree five benevolessences, which causes the tree to bear fyygs, a disaster occurs which sends the hero to Earth. When the hero wakes up, he/she has lost his/her wings and halo.

A unique feature in the game is that you design the hero. You choose its gender, height, shade of skin, hair style, hair color, eyes, eye color, and name. You also design your party members, so it is possible to make all party members look the same.

The Hero, along with the other Heroes of the series, is playable in Dragon Quest: Monster Battle Road II Legend. In that game, the Hero is depicted as a male angel.

Class and Skills
Hero always starts out as a Minstrel. He/She possesses a few unique skills. For example, they start out with "Egg On" and will learn Zoom after returning to the Celestrian Observatory aboard the Starlight Express.
Angelo is a playable character in Dragon Quest VIII. After losing his parents at a young age, he was brought in by Francisco, the abbot of Maella Abbey, like many other orphans. He grew up to be on of the Templar Knights, responsible for the abbey's protection. He likes to gamble and drink, making him a disgrace in the other templars' eyes, but he has the favour of Abbot Francisco. His half-brother Marcello, head of the Templar Knights, considers Angelo to be the cause of his sorrows. Marcello orders him to join the party after the events at Maella Abbey.

Angelo doesn't take his religious or ceremonial roles at the abbey seriously (although his swordsmanship and bow proficiency are impressive enough for him to become a Templar knight). He's more interested in hustling the rubes at nearby Simpleton and chasing ladies than in carrying out the duties of his station. Angelo marches to the beat of his own drum, but he's a good person. He goes to extraordinary lengths, outshining even the rising star, Marcello, to save Abbot Francisco. When things must be done, he rises to the occasion. The rest of the time, he wants to be carried around by his free spirit, as captured in one of his remarks prior to undertaking the Dragovian trials:

"If there's one thing I hate in this life, it's a trial. What kind of masochistic lunatic would come all the way up here to endure a gruelling, not to mention tedious, challenge?"

There are a few other characters worth remarking on. Marcello is Angelo's half brother, a character with a zealous hatred of the nobility. That, as the illegitimate son of one of his father's house servants, he was disowned by his aristocratic family imbues him with a desire to stick it to well-bred institutions--and their members--everywhere. He despises his half-brother, while he and Angelo are outwardly quite similar, the difference beteween the two is rather apparent.
Jessica Albert is a character in Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King. A girl from a good home, she comes from a wealthy family in the small village of Alexandria. However, contrary to her upbringing, she is unskilled in the social niceties and expected behaviour of her environment, which often leads to conflict with her mother. She joins up with the Hero for personal reasons, strengthening the party with her flair for offensive magic.

Magic is far from Jessica's only strength; she is also an outstanding fighter. Whips, staves, knives and later swords are her weapons of choice.

Jessica's appearance changes when she equips certain armor such as the Dangerous Bustier and the Magic Bikini.

Appearance
Jessica has red hair in a form of long pigtails with a few strands of it hanging over her face. She wears a purple blouse with sleeves starting at the upper part of her arm. She has a yellow, corsette-like, article of clothing around her stomach and waist which has a auburn belt around it that a small pouch hangs from. She has a long, maroon colored skirt that has a white frill at the bottom. You can see that she has brownish-black tights under the skirt, and pointed, brown shoes, in which the tights are tucked into.

Jessica also has other outfits that reveal her mature body.

*Jessica's Outfit
This is the outfit you first see Jessica in when you meet her.
This is Jessica's only outfit that doesn't show of her mature curves. She has a white dress shirt with a red tie. Her skirt is long and black.

* Dancer's Outfit
This outfit consists of a white bra, and a reddish-orange skirt tied off at the hip.

*Bunny Costume
This outfit can only be made if you put the Fishnet Stockings, Bunny Ears, and the Bunny Tail in the Alchemy Pot. The result is a black Playboy Bunny outfit.

*Magic Bikini
This outfit has low defense but increases Jessica's magic greatly. This outfit is a blue and yellow bikini with a miniskirt-like article of clothing around her waist.

*Dangerous Bustier
The only purpose of this outfit is to use it in the Alchemy Pot to make the Divine Bustier. And for a little bit of eye candy. It is black with a open slash in the front which is laced to keep from falling apart.
It straps around the back and and the part covering her rear is shaped like a heart.

*Divine Bustier
Jessica's best outfit. It increases her evasion and defense greatly. She has a purple and gold, low-cut, blouse that is tied off to a brace-like necklace. And in the middle of this blouse is a laced open part that shows her skin, but can look like a zipper if not examined closely. She has a miniskirt attached to the blouse, but most of her legs are covered by white, decorated with purple and gold, tights. She wears long, white gloves with a similar decoration than her tights. She has wings (strictly for style) on her back. This whole outfit strongly resembles the Staff of Resurrection.

Personality
Jessica can be very tomboyish and is a gifted with powerful magic abilities. Jessica, with the void from her brother's death and the estrangement from her family, seeks vengeance against Dhoulmagus, but, later, her primary goal is to save the world from Rhapthorne. Of her broad repertoire of spells and for fighting, her most powerful weapon is the whip. Jessica is often the victim of Angelo's lecherous tendencies. She once was susceptible to the lure of Rhapthorne's forbidden power--the sceptre, but was saved thanks to the party's determination. To the very end she and Angelo share a "complicated" relationship that nether will admit exists.
Yangus is a character in Dragon Quest VIII who accompanies the Hero on his missions. Yangus is also the featured character of Shounen Yangus to Fushigi no Dungeon spin-off. He serves as a powerful tank character over the course of the game. He refers to the Hero as "Guv" (governor).

History
Originally a bandit from Pickham, Yangus tried to "go straight", as he himself put it, but because of his appearance people didn't give him much of a chance, which brought him back to a life of crime. However, one fateful day, he tried to make some money off of tolling a bridge; the same bridge, which the Hero, King Trode and Medea were about to cross. Trode refused to pay - the bridge being withing his kingdom - causing Yangus to attack the group, but his attack failed and he ended up collapsing the bridge while The Hero, Trode and Medea made it to the other side, leaving Yangus hanging on for his life.

Trode insisted the group leave Yangus. But The Hero decided to save Yangus, who thanked the Hero and in turn pledged his loyalty to him. It is during this scene that Yangus gives the Hero the nickname of Guv.

Also between this time and the beginning of the game itself Yangus says the Hero has "helped him go straight".
|Title= Captain of the Guard
|Class=Hero
|Race=Half-human, half-Dragovian
|Age=20
|}}
The Hero of Dragon Quest VIII was an 20 year-old low-ranking royal guardsmen in Trodain Castle. He was one of the small band who survived Dhoulmagus' deadly attack, along with his current traveling companions Trode, Medea and Munchie, the faithful mouse who lives in the Hero's bag.

The Hero is a versatile character, as equally proficient in armed combat as he is in using healing spells and support magic. His preferred weapons are swords, spears and boomerangs.

Appearance and Personality
Like all Dragon Quest heroes, the Hero is perpetually silent throughout the game. He is half-human and half-Dragovian. His father is Eltrio, an Argonian prince who is the elder brother of the Argonian king of the kingdom of Argonia, Clavius. His mother is Xia, a Dragovian girl.

The Hero is chivalrous, stoic, abstentious, demuring, humble, courageous, indefatigable, and strong. In contrast to heroes of other games, this Hero dresses very casually, a consequence of his lowborn upbringing as opposed to being royalty or some kind of chosen one. Hero's greatness is gained through moral uprightness, rather than through divine birthright. Yet it is revealed throughout the course of the story that the Hero is indeed the Chosen One. The Hero is not performing magnanimous and valiant acts to attain greatness, but it is natural for one as great as he to perform all of these things.

He also does not appear to wear any kind of armour (irrespective of whatever he may actually have equipped). His red bandana has become one of his iconic features. Dragon Quest VIII has a character's in-game appearance change based on their weapon and shield, a first for the series.

Munchie
The Hero carries around his pet, Munchie, wherever he goes. A highly intelligent Pig-Rat. Munchie is capable of entering small spaces and exploring areas the party would otherwise have no access to, if you give Munchie cheese items he gains special abilities. Munchie rides in a pocket of the Hero's coat most of the time. Munchie will show true significance after the game.

Skill Tips
Swords pay off if you are in pursuit of metal monsters, with Metal Slash (30 points) being particularly useful. If you accumulate 100 points in swords and courage you learn the almighty gigagash, although this takes quite some time to achieve.

Spears are ideal for hunters of metal monsters in particular, with Thunder Thrust (12 points) and Lightning Thrust (59 points). The Multithrust (25 points) is also worth a try against single enemies.

Boomerangs are a real boon in the beginning of the game because they attack all enemies. Later, however, this skill becomes less useful (over 40 points: Attack + 15), so it is advisable to switch to developing differents skills.

Fisticuffs is largely ineffectual to the other skills, although some actions are worth a try like Thin Air (42 points). The Hero can only make a real impression when he learns Attack + 50 (100 points).

Courage is extreamly useful as a means of learning traits that reduce MP consumption (at 56 and 90 points). Don't ignore the advanced attacks either (Zap, 48 points and Kazap at 100 points), or the Omniheal spell at 82 points.

Suggested Strategies: Learn Courage up to 8 points (Zoom) initially, then learn Boomerangs up to 40 points (Attack + 15) followed by courage up to 100. Next, increase your Swords skill to 66 (Attack + 25) or Spears up to 59 (Critical Hit %).

Another option would be to forgo Boomerangs altogether and start by dividing points equally between Swords and Courage (up to Swords 66), then switching to Spears and Courage.

However, since you come across some extreamly effective spears in the opening stages of the game, you may prefer to concentrate on mastering spears from the outset.
|}}Aira is a character from Dragon Quest VII. She is a member of the Dejan tribe but has shown some restlessness recently.

Appearance
Aira is similar to dress as Kiefer. She wears an abbreviated red jacket that she leaves open. She also dons a leather bra and with a red bikini bottom. Draped around her waist is a tattered cloth that she wears like a robe. Slung on the back of her waist is the Deja Sword with which she is quite proficient. In appearance, she looks like a dancer and a warrior, which fits her nicely.

In fact, many people from Estard, including King Burns feel a connection to her, even though they have never met before, pushing the implication that Aira is the descendant of Kiefer.

Personality
Aira is quite the forceful person. Whatever she decides to do, she does and damn the consequences. Many of the tribe find it hard to tell her what to do or what she should do. In fact, during her initiation as the tribe's lead dancer, she walked out from the tent where the initiation was taking place, upset with the way the chief was playing the tula. During this, no one was able to stop her for fear of her swordsmanship. She finds that she is restless with the way of the Deja Tribe. She wants to go and find new adventures.

However, this isn't to say that she is a brat. On the contrary, she is very dedicated to reviving God. Her reason for joining the party, first and foremost is to find a person to play the legendary Terra Tula.

History
Not much is known about Aira's past except that she was trained to lead the Deja Tribe in dancing. Someone also taught her to fight with the sword as she is very proficient in this art as well.

Synopsis
During the initiation to become the tribe's dancer, Aira walks out of the tent where she is performing. She heads to a cliff by a waterfall where the Hero and party catch up to her. She asks them who they are and they introduce themselves. Aira believes that they were sent by the Chief of the Dejans. She explains that she has no desire to be a dancer. With that, she returns to the Dejan camp.

When the party arrives, they find Aira and the chief having a heated discussion. Aira wants to find the legendary Tula Player but the chief doesn't want her to leave. As the party enters the tent, Aira quickly uses them to her advantage. She tells the chief that she will be in their capable hands. The chief asks the party if this is true. The Hero responds in the affirmative. The chief relents and tells Aira to be careful on her journey. Aira is given the Terra Tula to find the Legendary Tula Player.

Aira then leads the party to the cliff again and finds a grave that reads Here lies the Holy Dancer and the Holy Guardian. She digs up the grave and finds the Deja Sword. She explains that this is the sword that Deja Guardians use to protect the tribe. The chief didn't approve of her having it so she buried it. She then lies under the stars and invites the party to do the same.

Night passes and they wake up the next morning. Aira formally joins the party and they set off to find the Legendary Tula player.

If the player heads to Estard first and enter the Castle, Aira will tell the party that she feels as though she has been before even though she knows she hasn't. If the party talks to King Burns, he will ask Aira to look her in the eyes and ask if she recognizes her. Aira will respond that she doesn't.

The party head to Mardra and find it a place dedicated to to the arts. They meet the Princess Michaela and tell her of their quest to find the Legendary Tula Player. Michaela responds that she will use her influence to organize a contest so that a Tula Player can be found. Aira leaves the Terra Tula with the princess and continue on their adventure.

Abilities
Aira joins the party at level 21 and already several abilities learned.
Strategy
Aira is able to equip most weapons and armors in the game. Because of this and her high strength increases, she is best suited to physical attacks.

Being the ritual Dancer of the Dejan tribe, it isn't surprising that Aira joins the party with the Dancer class already mastered. She joins the party as a three-star Soldier. The player should allow Aira to become a five-star Soldier so that she can use the skill Sword Dance, a powerful skill that attacks all enemies four times.

Because she already mastered the Dancer class, it would be a good idea to learn the Teen Idol class after mastering both the Bard and Jester classes.

Name
The name Aira can be seen as a conglomeration of the Italian name Aria, meaning 'Song' or 'Melody' and the Japanese name Airi which means 'Love' and 'affection'.
Melvin is an elderly paladin who aided God in the fight against Orgodemir. However, before the final battle began, God sealed him away into the Hero Stone and was whisked away until he was needed again.

Appearance
Melvin is wrapped in chain mail from head to toe. He also wears the tunic similar to the other Soldiers of God. He sports a bushy white mustache.

Personality
Melvin is quite polite in conversation. He uses very formal diction, including such archaic words as thou. He is very polite to his comrades. For example, he calls the Hero Master Hero and Maribel Miss Maribel.

Melvin has a strong sense of duty which prevents him from walking away when someone else is in need, such as in the case of Loomin. This is also coupled with his strong sense of justice and intense hatred of the Demon's Lord machinations. He also has pride in his distinction as a Soldier of God.

Melvin, so used to the fighting he endured, is fascinated by the present world and its relative peacefulness. He takes a keen interest in exploring past worlds and righting the wrongs of the past.

Melvin is also slightly perverted, demonstrated when he wishes to see Aira dancing. He, at least, has the decency to apologize for this.

Past
Melvin had long fought with God against the Demon Lord, Orgodemir. He is a seasoned veteran of these battles. However, before the final battle began, God sealed Melvin into a stone against Melvin's wishes. His reasoning was because God felt as though he wouldn't survive the encounter with the Demon Lord. The stone, known as the Hero Stone, was sent far away from the battle. Melvin became a legend and is venerated as a hero. The Hero Stone lore became lost.

However, through chance, Hondara came into possession of the Hero Stone. He called it the Hot Stone because of the heat that radiated from it. He tried to sell it to people but they didn't want it. One day, he did find a buyer in Burgeo who paid an obscene of gold for it, knowing its true purpose.

Burgeo knew that it the Hot Stone was actually the Hero Stone and wanted to revive the Hero to be his servant. To do so, he had to climb the World's Tallest Tower and place the Hot Stone on the altar. Doing so will release Melvin from the seal.

Synopsis
After Burgeo and the party release Melvin from the Hero Stone, he thanks them for doing so. Burgeo expresses some disappointment at Melvin, who expected him to be more muscular or more refined. Burgeo allows Melvin to go with the Hero and his party. Melvin expresses his wishes to find out what happened to the world after the battle between God and the Demon Lord.

After the part defeats the Demon Lord in the past, they set themselves on reviving God. With the help of the Dejans and Johann, they are successful in doing so. God thanks the party and the Dejans for his revival and promises that the world will enter a new era of peace.

Months pass by as Melvin works by God's side in the new Crystal Palace, created next to Estard. However, Melvin notices a change in God. He sees that God is sealing away worlds that are steeped in evil. Being suspicious, he asks God why he is doing this and is instantly branded a traitor. Melvin escapes the Crystal Palace and makes it to Coastal. There, he uses MindSpeak, a telekinetic ability that allows a person to reach another and communicate with them mentally, to tell the Hero and the party what he uncovered at the Crystal Palace. Melvin explains that God has sealed all of the worlds that he deemed evil and Estard was one of them. He asks them to try and uncover the four elemental spirits but they tell him that they are unable to go anywhere. Melvin realizes that in order for them to continue on their quest, he must find the Pilot Fire in Coastal. By himself, he makes his way to the Coastal Lighthouse where the Pilot Fire is burning. He mentally sends them the Pilot Fire so the party can find the elemental spirits.

After Estard and all of the lands are unsealed, Melvin inexplicably returns, giving the player the option of putting him in the final party against the Demon Lord.

Ending
When the Demon Lord is defeated, the party is transported to the Sky Fane. There, the descendants of the Soldiers of God thank the party for defeating the Demon Lord. Melvin elects to stay in the Sky Fane. He thanks the party for helping him save the world.

Abilities
Melvin starts out at level 19. He learns the following abilities naturally.
Melvin can equip most swords and heavy armor. However, he is not a tank like the Hero.

Melvin has an interesting set of skills when the player first acquires him. However, he is slightly better in magic than in physical attacks. So the player should choose classes with good magic boosts.

In Disc 2, he is separated from the party in Coastal. He is unplayable until the player frees all of the elemental spirits. When he does, the player may choose to keep him in the party or trade him for either Maribel, Gabo or Aira for the endgame.

Gabo is a playable character in Dragon Quest VII. He is a White Wolf that was turned into a human.

Appearance
Gabo is a small, young boy with long unkempt hair. He wears a blue cloth that is fixed like a cape and sackcloth shorts held together by a rope.

Personality
When the player gains Gabo as a party member in the beginning, he is unable to communicate because he was originally a white wolf. However, due to a spell by Deathpal, he is able to speak. Maribel says that he is "quite the talker".

Gabo carries over traits from being a White Wolf, including agility and enhanced senses. He is a fast runner on two feet. He can also bite an enemy and paralyze them, however this was only shown after the battle against Deathpal and not since.

He is constantly looking to eat. Should the Hero talk with him, Gabo asks about food. He also loves competition and fighting. He looks for any chance to prove himself.

Gabo doesn't understand human behavior such as love and tact. During the quest in Verdham, Gabo speaks his confusion to the situation between Pepe and Linda. In Dharma, Gabo asks Kasim why legs are so short.

History
Gabo was born to a white wolf who just finished fighting Deathpal. The fight injured her to the point where after she gave birth to her, she died.

Gabo was taken in by a farmer in the town of Orph and was chained to the wall for both the farmer's protection and the comfort of Gabo. However, Deathpal came to the town. To spite the White Wolves, he turned all of the residents of Orph into animals and vice versa. Gabo is transformed into a human. The chain, which was probably comfortable in his wolf form, was now choking him.

Synopsis
The hero, Kiefer, and Maribel reach Orph after Deathpal's spell. Inside a shack, they find Gabo chained to a wall by his neck. The Hero and his party is unable to free him.

After getting the woodcutter from the present, he frees Gabo and he runs out of the town.

As the party begin to fight Deathpal, Gabo arrives and bites the monster. The party, along with the woodcutter, engage the monster in combat. The party defeats Deathpal and Gabo bites him again. With this bite, Deathpal is paralyzed. He realizes that Gabo is actually a white wolf who was caught in the spell that he cast in Orph. As a final spite, Deathpal casts his final spell on him. This spell curses him to remain in human form forever. The party reseals Deathpal in the coffin again, undoing the spell in Orph.

After the battle is finished, the party thanks the boy, who identifies himself as Gabo. They are surprised that he is able to speak but he can only communicate in simple sentences like "Gabo go" and growling.

The party returns to Orph to see the spell undone. They visit the farmer who took care of Gabo to find his disbelief that the wolf had disappeared. Leaving the shack, they see Gabo and his wolf friend outside the building. The woodcutter understands that he wanted to thank the man for his kindness. It is in this moment that the woodcutter decides to adopt Gabo

They party, along with the white wolf, the woodcutter and Gabo, return to the portal and step through it, finding themselves back in the Estard Ruins. The woodcutter tries to bring Gabo with him but he refuses, saying that the seal on Deathpal could have only been broken on the outside and that whomever broke the seal was very powerful. Therefore, he wanted to defeat the evil that broke the seal in Mt. Ceide. The woodcutter acknowledges this requests and allows Gabo to go with the party.

The party goes to Mt. Ceide in the present and return to the place where the monster was previously sealed. They hear a voice telling them to run away or face the consequences. Instead, they opened up the coffin once more. Deathpal is revealed to be in a human form now. He figures that it is punishment for what he did before. He recognizes the party and wants to make up what he did to Gabo in the past. He tries using magic to return Gabo to his wolf form but he fails. Instead, he makes him more human and gives Gabo the power to speak the human language. Gabo is ecstatic that he is finally able to communicate with the party. Deathpal also gives the party an Aquashard to the party. The party leaves Mt. Ceide to continue on their adventure.

Strategy
When the player obtains Gabo after Orph, he starts at level 1. Therefore it is advisable to keep him in the back until he gains levels. After level 2, he gains Bark which will allow him to participate in battle. As he gains levels, he can move to third position until he is on the same levels as the rest of the party.

Gabo is naturally fast. Attacks miss him more often than the rest of the party. When he reaches the same levels as the party, he will usually attack first. He will also gain strength in bounds so that when he reaches certain levels, he is doing significant damage. When he learns Rip and Howl, he will become more adept in defeating enemies.

Gabo can equip light armor and furs. He is the only one who can wield claws. However, should he wield a sword in battle, his attack actually goes down.

As Gabo is the only party member besides the Hero to stay in the party throughout the duration of the game, he is best made to learn classes that increase his strength, like Warrior and Fighter. If the player wishes to learn advance classes, Gabo and the Hero are the best bet.

Maribel is the daughter of the mayor of Fishbel in the game Dragon Quest VII

Appearance
Maribel has long brunette hair that she wears in curls. She wears a simple one piece robe and a orange kerchief over her hair.

Personality
Maribel is quite snobbish. Being the daughter of the mayor has helped nurture this trait. Her target is usually the Hero. She regards him as a lackey, expecting him to provide protection to her, even in battle. She can be very pushy, especially when she doesn't get her way. Maribel has no problem expressing her opinion on any subject, going so far as to label the WindSpirit a slut. To her parents, she is a tomboy and they would like her to be more ladylike However, beneath this facade is a gentle heart. After she learns of her father's illness, she voluntarily leaves the party to look after him.

Beginning
In the beginning of the night, Maribel is talking to the Hero. She asks him if he will ever tell her where he and Kiefer go every day. Regardless of what the player answers, she will tell him that she will find out someday.

On the day of the Amitt festival, Maribel tries to stow away on the fishing expedition. However she is found out by the hero. When she yells at him for revealing her hiding spot, she is discovered by the ship's cook who proceeds to throw her off the ship.

Afterwards, King Burns summons the hero to Estard Castle. Maribel witnesses this summons and tags along, telling him that she wanted to go shopping in the castle town. The two head to the castle town where she leaves him to talk to the king, telling him that she can find her way back home by herself.

When the Hero and Kiefer are about to unlock the secret of the Estard Ruins, Maribel finds them. She threatens them to take her along with them or else she will tell everyone about their secret. Faced with this dilemma, the two allow her to tag along as they finish exploring the ruins. When the Hero activates the Pedestal that leads to Rexwood, Maribel is shocked at the happenings. The three of them are transported to Rexwood.

After the party clears Probina, Loomin and Mardra, Maribel exclaims that she is tired. She decides to head to her house to rest. Before they leave the Ruins, they are encountered by an Estard soldier. He tells Maribel that her father, Amitt has taken ill. Maribel hurries home to see her father bedridden being attended to by the local priest and her mother. Maribel is in no position to adventure at this junction.

Revival of God
After the Hero, Gabo, Aira and King Burns are thrown off the Sky Stone, the island of Estard is sealed, they go to see Maribel. She asks the Hero if there is a seal on their continent. She realizes that the party needs her help to remove the seal. She joins the party.
When the Demon Lord is defeated, the party goes through the lands and they sing the praises of the heroes.

After several months, the Amitt Festival occurs. Maribel once again tries to stow away on the ship but is found out by the Hero. She starts to chew him out until she is caught by the Head Cook again. However, Borkano allows Maribel to come on the fishing voyage this time, to her delight.

Strategy
Maribel is the weakest physical character. She will not be dealing high damage until she reaches Dharma Temple where she can change her class. She can, however, equip whips which deal successive damage to groups of enemies. Conversely, she has high intelligence which makes her better suited to magic classes like Mage and Cleric. It should be noted that this will make her more frail and so she should always be situated in the back row.

She can equip knives, staves and whips to attack and wear robes. Maribel should also be given items such as the Wonder Rock and the Bless Staff so she can be designated healer.

Maribel leaves the party after the events of Probina, Loomin and Mardra. Because of this, when the player gets her back in Disc 2, she is extremely frail. To assuage this, the player must remember to get her some weapons and armor from Coastal or the Sky Fane so that she isn't weak when she joins the party again.

Kiefer is the prince of Estard and best friends with the Hero of Dragon Quest VII.

Appearance
Kiefer has fair skin and messy blond hair. He wears a prince's tunic, leather boots and gloves, and carries a sword on his back (which, strangely enough, cannot be equipped).

Personality
In the beginning of the game, Kiefer has been described with "having a taste for wine, women, and adventure". He hates being in the castle all the time so he and the hero like to go off and explore the forbidden ruins on the island. In contrast, he seems to resent his position as Prince, a feeling that puts him at odds with his father. He can come off as snobbish at times, like in Rexwood, he introduces his friends as lackeys. However, he does have a sense of duty when he tells the Hero that they should find the Green Colorstone to heal Hank.

When the party meets the nomadic Dejans, Kiefer's attitude changes. He sees Layla and falls in love. He begins to see his destiny with the Dejans.

Synopsis
The game begins with the Hero and Kiefer exploring the underground cave in the Estard Ruins. He tells the Hero to call it a day. The next day, Kiefer steals the Sunstone, a ring that belonged to his mother, and a scroll from the royal library. It shows a picture of a man with a scepter. Kiefer interprets it to be the same as a statue in the Ruins. He tries putting the Sunstone on the statue but nothing happens. Frustrated, he leaves the scroll with the Hero who takes it to the Sage at the Cliff. The Sage interprets it and tells them that in order to open the ruins the Chosen One must pray before the statue.

The boys pray at the statue and the doors open. They solve the puzzles in the ruins and reveal the fane and pedestals with the sealed worlds. The boys, along with Maribel, put shards on the pedestals and reveal new lands.

As he and the heroes uncover new lands around the world until they eventually happen upon the nomadic Dejan tribe who are trying to resurrect God. Kiefer falls in love with the dancer of the tribe, Layla, a dancer infused with the Terra Spirit.

The Dejans celebrate their new dancer with singing, dancing, and wine. Layla, however, is distant. She hides in her tent. The Hero and Kiefer enter the tent with some Viva Grape, a powerful. Kiefer asks her why she isn't celebrating with the others. She tells them that she doesn't feel like it. Layla asks her where they are from, to which he replies Estard. She asks where it is and he responds that it is out in the ocean. He tells her that there is a prince in that castle who loves to weasel out of his responsibilities. Layla tells him that she can relate, to the surprise of Kiefer.

They are interrupted by Jann, the tribe's Tula Player. He immediately accuses Kiefer of trying to steal his fiance. But Layla tells him that they were just talking. Jann is not convinced but lets the issue drop.

When the tribe is asleep, monsters attack the tribe. The tribe's Gaurdian, Datz, is fending off monsters with Kiefer. Datz is poisoned by one of the monsters. Kiefer, who is protecting Layla, defeats a ManEater. When the Hero talks to Kiefer, he tells them that they could have used his swordsmanship. Datz is cured of poison. However, he is unable to go with the rest of the tribe to the Temple of God. Layla, his daughter, refuses to go without her father so she decides to wait until her father gets better. Kiefer volunteers to protect both of them until they are ready to make the journey. Jann refuses at first, saying that this is just a ploy by Kiefer to take him away from Layla. He then decides to stay with Layla as well. However, the tribal chief rebukes him, saying that they need Jann's tula playing to fend off the monsters. Jann relents to this request.

Layla appears later in the submerged Temple of God. On the journey, she sprained her ankle. Jann is mad at Kiefer for her injury but Layla rebukes him, saying that it wasn't his fault. Kiefer helps Layla out of the corridor.

Jann and Layla perform the Revival of God ceremony but is unsuccessful. Jann reveals that he had the mark of the Terra Spirit as well. He knows that he cannot marry Layla with the mark and so he has been trying to revive God so that he would be free from the constraints of the tribe and marry Layla. He exiles himself from the tribe as punishment.

The tribe's chief rebukes Layla for dancing on a sprained ankle, saying that she could have hurt herself. Kiefer defends her by saying to let things go and what is done is done, to the relief of Layla.

During the night, Kiefer talks to the Hero. He talks about destiny and the mark on the Hero's arm. He muses how great it must be to have a destiny. he wonders if there is something that he alone can do as he is not cut out for succeeding his father, King Burns.

The next day, Kiefer fights Datz for the right to become a Dejan Guardian. He is successful and defeats Datz. The chief acknowledges his strength and makes him a member of the Dejan Tribe. With that, he is given a Deja Sword.

He escorts the Hero and his party back to the portal and gives them all of his stuff plus a letter to give to his father. With a push, Kiefer sends the party back to the present, parting forever.

Legacy
In a stone tablet found at the end of the game, Kiefer leaves these words for the Hero.

"Dear Hero,

I'm still traveling with Layla and the rest of the Dejan tribe. I don't even know how long it has been since you and I went our separate ways. Jann has yet to return. As the Guardian of the tribe, the honor of marrying Layla fell to me. If you find this, I want you to let my father know that his son has finally found his way in this world.

And, Hero, I want you to know that we are friends no matter how far we are from each other.

Your friend,
Kiefer"

The game also infers that his direct descendant is Aira

Abilities
Kiefer learns the following skills naturally.
Strategy
Kiefer can equip everything the Hero can equip. Plus he can equip hammers and axes. Because of this, he should be used as a tank. Once he learns Fireslash, the player should use it in lieu of his regular attack. The only exception should be the FireGiant in Engow. In boss battles, Kiefer should make liberal use of his Psycheup/Fireslash combo.

The player should note that because he leaves the party forever in Deja, they should not use any stat increasers on him.

Appearances in Other Games
Kiefer is also the hero in Dragon Quest Monsters: Caravan Heart.
The Hero of Dragon Quest VII is the son of a prominent fisherman and the game's main protagonist. He is friends with Prince Kiefer of Estard Castle and a young woman named Maribel who travel with him to find shards to restore the world to its former glory.

Appearance
The Hero of Dragon Quest VII is dressed in a green tunic, complete with a green hat that is the source of ridicule from Maribel. This hat covers his messy hair. In some of the character art, he is depicted with an iguana.

Personality
As tradition of the Dragon Quest series, the hero has no personality to speak because he is the personification of the player. He only communicates through a prompt of yeses and noes However, he is generally liked by the people of Fishbel and Estard. He is somewhat of a late sleeper, to his mother's consternation. He also has a problem refusing people's requests and is constantly bullied into doing stuff by Maribel or Hondara.

Synopsis
The game begins with the Hero and Kiefer finishing their exploration of the ruins as the sun goes down on the island. Later on that night, Maribel asks the Hero what he was doing. Regardless the answer, Maribel will not be pleased and she tells him that she will find out what he is doing sooner or later.

Morning breaks and he is awakened by Mollie, his mother, who scolds him. She gives him a fish sub and tell the Hero to deliver it to his father, Borkano. The Hero does so and is ordered by his father to clean up the ship's interior. While there, he finds Maribel trying to stow away on the ship. She tries to convince the Hero not to rat her out when she is also discovered by the ship's cook who throws out the young woman. After this, Borkano tells the Hero that he is not ready to come with him. He tells the Hero to look after his mother while she is preparing for the Amitt Harvest. The Hero exits the ship and watches it depart.

Afterwards, he is approached by a soldier from Estard Castle. He tells the Hero that the King Burns wishes to speak to him. After the message was delivered, the Hero prepares to leave when Maribel approaches him. Overhearing this, she imposes herself on the Hero and the two head to Estard Castle Town. They arrive without any problems and Maribel leaves to look at dresses.

The Hero enters the castle to speak with King Burns. The king asks him about Kiefer, his son, and his whereabouts. Regardless of the answer, the king will be agitated by the answer. He explains that Kiefer stole the Sunstone, his mother's ring.

After his meeting with the king, the Hero goes to find Kiefer who is at the ruins, who has already tried the Sunstone on the statue in the Ruins. It has no effect at all. Kiefer tells the Hero about what he had found out in the library and explains that this must have something to do with the ruins. He gives the Hero the scroll and asks him to figure out something with it.

The Hero heads to the Sage on the Cliff and give him the scroll. The Sage tells the Hero that he can translate this document. The Hero goes to find Kiefer so that they can hear the explanation.

Armed with the information, the pair head back to ruins and open it. After solving the secret of the ruins, they enter the Pedestal Room. They find two Landshards but are unable to complete the pictograph without a final piece. Having done all that can be done at that point, the two leave the ruins and head back to their respective rooms.

When the Hero returns home, he is greeted by Borkano. He tells the Hero that he had found something interesting. He gives the Hero a Landshard. With the final piece, the Hero finds Kiefer and they head back to the ruins.

When the boys get there, they are confronted by Maribel who threatens to expose their secret unless they take her with them. Having no other options, they agree. The trio get to the Pedestal Room and place the final piece in the Pedestal. An amazing thing happens. The trio are sent to the past.

From there, they go on many adventures to restore the world to its former glory.

Abilities
The Hero learns the following abilities naturally.
The Hero is very flexible in every category. He can equip most of the weapons and armors in the game. His statistics are above average which makes him very suited to be molded into whatever role the player would like. Players should make sure to have the Hero learn three intermediate classes so that the Hero class is available as its move set are some of the best skills/spells to learn. It is also advisable to use the seeds that are found ingame on the Hero as he is the only character that stays with the player from beginning to end.
