Orgodemir (オルゴ・デミーラ, Orugo demīra) is the final boss and main antagonist of Dragon Quest VII. Known as the Demon King, he is the force behind all the evil that the Hero and his party encounter during the game. A villain with multiple forms, Orgodemir sought to replace the Almighty, and had nearly the entire world sealed away to keep his foe from being resurrected.

Orgodemir has appeared in various spinoffs in the series, including Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker, Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 and Dragon Quest IX as a Legacy Boss.

History
Long before the game begins, Orgodemir set out to seal all lands and cast them in darkness. He was opposed by the Almighty and the Four Elemental Spirits: Earth, Fire, Water, and Wind. The Almighty was defeated and the four spirits were scattered. However, the Almighty had put a system into place that would allow the world to be reborn again within the Shrine of Mysteries.

Characteristics
Orgodemir's true form is a monstrous demonic centipede with the upper body of a humanoid and draconic features. His head is enlarged, has a pair of large spikes on each side of it, and exposes his brain. His brain also has smaller spikes surrounding it. Orgodemir has three eyes with vertical pupils, pointed ears, a black spike on his chin, and a mouth lined with sharp fangs and a purple tongue. He has a pair of dragon wings on his back, a yellow bone-like structure which surrounds his torso, and a section on his chest similar in appearance to a rib cage. His lower back is covered in dorsal fins and small black spines, ending in a long black spike. The underside of his lower body is yellow. Orgodemir moves about by crawling on his various legs in a fashion similar to real-world centipedes. In the past, most of Orgodemir's body is beige, he has yellow eyes, his brain is red, the webbing on his wings is orange, and his chest, legs, and various spikes are all purple. In the present, most of Orgodemir's body is dark green, his eyes are red, his brain is purple, and the spikes on his body are black. In both of his forms, Orgodemir has long, sharp nails on his hands, which are purple in the past and black in the present.

Orgodemir can also disguise himself in a humanoid form, retaining the pair of wings on his back along with his three eyes and long, pointed ears (however, the shape of wings differs rather noticeably, from ones of his real form). His skin is now pale green and his exaggerated facial features are meant to be physically attractive. He wears his silver hair in a long, slick forelock falling over his face. His eyes are white with red pupils and he wears dark blue eyeshadow on all three of his eyelids, as well as dark purple lipstick. Orgodemir wears a red-lined suit with a coattail and puffed sleeves that exposes most of his chest, a leather codpiece with a skull belt around his waist, and leather shoes with steel tips. He also wears an extensive amount of jewelry, including a single black hoop earring on his right ear and numerous earrings on his left ear, a leather choker and chain necklace around his neck, and various bones on his fingers. In the past, the suit he wears is red and the webbing on his wings is orange, while in the present he wears a purple suit and the webbing on his wings is green.

Synopsis
start
Although Orgodemir himself does not make an appearance until late in the story, his presence is felt throughout the various worlds the party visits. At Ballymolloy, the warrior Maeve is twisted into a monster by a mysterious evil voice. The Tinpot Dictator invades the land of Faraday with an army of Automatons on the orders of the Demon King, aided by the Slaughtomaton. At Alltrades Abbey, Cardinal Sin and his monsters concoct a devious plan in order to strengthen the Demon King with the stolen abilities of adventurers hoping to change their vocation there. In the land of Al-Balad, a group of monsters led by Setesh the Punisher forces the people to construct a monument in the likeness of the Demon King.

The kingdom of Buccanham is the only nation to pose a serious threat against the Demon King's reign. A band of pirates, led by Captain Sharkeye, braves the seas in their ship, the Sea Dragon and fights battles against the Demon King's monsters. However, their victories are short-lived, as Orgodemir encases the ship and its crew in ice, putting a stop to their heroics. The Demon King then places a curse on the kingdom of Buccanham, causing its newborns to be transformed into monsters on the first night after a full moon.

The Hero and his party travel to the past through the Excavated Cave underneath the Dig Site. After placing Mysterious Fragments into the pedestal there, they are transported to the Malign Shrine. They witness the Almighty sealing away Sir Mervyn in the Sizzling Stone and His defeat at the hands of the Demon King. After traversing through the stronghold, they encounter the Demon King himself. Orgodemir taunts the party by saying they are foolish to throw their lives away for the sake of the Almighty. He even allows them to walk away. However, if the player refuses, Orgodemir will fight the party.

When the player defeats Orgodemir, he tells them that although they were able to defeat his body, his soul will never die. With that, he disappears, ending Disc 1.

In Disc 2, the party reunites with the present day Roamers in their ceremony to revive God. With Aishe dancing in the Vestment of Virtue and Crispin playing the Torban of Truth, the Almighty is revived. However, unbeknownst to the party, this is really Orgodemir in disguise. As the Almighty, Orgodemir thanks the party for reviving him and tells them that he will issue peace to the entire worlds.

Months later, Orgodemir, disguised as the Almighty, has the populace of the world build him a palace at the center of the world known as the Cathedral of Light. Sir Mervyn has been working with him as part of security. After its completion, he invites representatives from all nations to hear him speak. He tells them that he is the Almighty and that evil has been defeated. He instructs them to do dispose of their weapons as they will have no need for them and not to take the life of a human or a monster. Orgodemir, as the Almighty, then asks the Hero to give him the Dark Ruby as it is evil. With this, the audience with The Almighty is finished and he disappears. As the Hero's Party leaves the Cathedral of Light, they see Mervyn being chased by soldiers, claiming that he has committed treason against Him.

As the party leaves to return to Estard, the land is sealed once again and thrown into darkness. This is the work of Orgodemir. Mervyn communicates this to the party via Mindspeak. He tells the party that the Almighty went about sealing the worlds that he said were evil. When Mervyn questioned this judgment, he was called a traitor. However, he learned of the four Elemental Spirits and they are the only beings able to shed light on the Almighty's actions. When the party awakens the Fire Spirit, they free the Sea Dragon and its crew from their icy prison, allowing Sharkeye and his band of pirates to assist the party's battle against the Demon King.

When the party find all the Elemental Spirits, they go to the Cathedral of Light and reveal that the Almighty is actually the Demon King. Unfortunately, this leaves the Spirits overtaxed and unable to defeat Orgodemir. After his ruse is revealed, Orgodemir transforms the Cathedral of Light into the Cathedral of Blight and it serves as the final dungeon of the game. The party enters the Cathedral and reaches the Demon King at its depths. He tells them that he is the new The Almighty and that they will not be able to defeat him because they are ephemeral creatures. The party challenges Orgodemir.

With their victory, Orgodemir wonders why he was defeated and postulates the party is actually the Almighty. Orgodemir's final defeat brings peace to the world.
end

Strategy
The player fights Orgodemir twice at the end of each disc. In the first battle, he has two forms, and in the second battle, he has four forms.
The Earth Spirit, also known as the TerraSpirit or the Spirit of the Land, is a character and boss in Dragon Quest VII.

Appearance
The Earth Spirit has the appearance of a muscular Golem like creature composed completely out of earthen materials. Most of his body appears to be comprised of boulders and he wears stone rings on his wrists and ankles, although given his structure these may simply be part of his body.. The Earth Spirit also has holes throughout his body that show glowing molten metal underneath and gold markings on both his forehead and his upper arms. He has a squat face with plain features and purple eyes.

Story
The Earth Spirit makes his dwelling in the desert of Al-Balad, as it is the region with the most of his element. He is known as the Spirit of the Land to the people of Al-Balad, where he is an important spiritual figure, representing every stone and grain of sand in the Earth. The Likeness is a sphinx that has been constructed in his honor, at least until the Demon King forced the people of Al-Balad to rebuild it so that it would represent him instead. The ritual used to summon the Spirit of the Land involves drawing his image into the sand at the Oasis. After the Fire Spirit is reawakened, the party heads back to the land of Al-Balad in order to awaken the Earth Spirit as well, as it is necessary to awaken the power of all Four Great Spirits in order to unseal the islands from darkness.

The Prince of Midenhall, also known as the Prince of Lorasia (ローレシアの王子), is one of the three playable characters from Dragon Quest II. He is a descendant of Erdrick who responds to the sudden rising threat of Hargon. He inherited all of his ancestor's physical strength, but unlike his cousins the Prince of Cannock and the Princess of Moonbrooke, he cannot use magic, and as such is the only Dragon Quest main hero who doesn't possess any magical ability. The Japanese version depicts the Prince of Midenhall as a man of convictions who is determined to protect his kingdom and his world. This also holds true in the American version.

The name given to the hero in the Japanese CD theater drama and novelizations is Allen (アレン).

Appearance
The Hero wears blue for the most part, though the goggles that rest on his helmet are brown. He wears a blue tunic over form-fitting black pents, blue shoes with light blue socks, and blue gloves. Across his chest is a swordbelt with a scabbard attached to the back. He also wears a brown belt around his waist with a small brown pouch on it and a belt buckle in the shape of Erdrick's symbol. His sword is typical aside from the hand cover built into the hilt, and his shield is adorned with Erdrick's symbol. His hair is only ever shown in the artwork of the tectonic plate, where it's shown to be black in colour and trimmed short, though with notable bangs.

Personality
Even though the Hero is a silent protagonist and his personality is open for the player to define, a strong sense of justice can be seen in the beginning of the game, as he sets out to stop Hargon and his evil cult without so much as a "But thou must" question from the King.

Although the Hero is the only nameable character, he remains equal in stature with his 2 companions in Dragon Quest II, the Prince of Cannock and the Princess of Moonbrooke. All 3 are descendants of Erdrick. This varies from other games in the series where only the hero is of notable birth compared to his party companions.
Equipment
As the most physically powerful of the trio, the Prince of Midenhall has access to the widest range of weapons and armor. He can equip every weapon and piece of armor available, including heavier ones that his cousins cannot use, such as the Sledgehammer. This means he is also the only character who has access to the legendary Erdrick's equipment, and as such, should use them when facing Hargon.
Dragon Quest Builders 2
While he does not appear in the game physically, he is mentioned several times with his cousins by various characters, Hargon, his Children, and even the amnesiac Malroth. His clothing can be obtained after the Builder exchanges a certain amount of Mini medals to the Hairy Hermit.

Trivia
*He is the only main hero who cannot use magic of any kind.
*Like many of the main heroes in the series, he is a silent protagonist.
*He can reach a maximum level of 50.
*In the Japanese version of the game, he is depicted as the tallest of the cousins.
*In the artwork for the American NES version of the game, he is still wearing Erdrick's signature blue armor, but the shield had been changed from blue to red.
Gracos is a recurring monster and antagonist in the Dragon Quest series. He is typically depicted as an overweight merman-like monster wielding a pole-arm.

Characteristics
Gracos is likely a more powerful form of a Merman, as he shares many of his characteristics with this monster, particularly the placement of his fins. Gracos differs from this common monster by means of his greater girth, thicker lips, wristbands and weapon: a pole-arm with a crescent-shaped blade on the end.

Having first appeared as a boss monster, Gracos typically fulfills that same role in his other appearances and is powerful as such. He possesses great physical might and is adept at using magic and abilities as well.

In Dragon Quest VI, Gracos maintains the seal on Sorceria and defeating him enables access to the city. Gracos is the least competent of the Dread Fiends, sleeping on the job and unintentionally informing the party of his master's plans at the slightest inquiry.
Making his second appearance as a boss, Gracos is the one responsible for flooding Hamelia in the past and must be confronted in order to set things right.

Strategy
Gracos is a tough fight. He can attack twice in one round and hit the party very hard. He is immune to Sap and has a high resistance to Surround. Finally, he has a very high resistance to ice spells and skills so these should be avoided completely.

There is a small grace as Jann joins this fight. Even still, Gracos shouldn't be taken lightly. The Shepherd's Barrier technique does wonders for this battle as well as Increase and Upper. Armor that protects against ice is a must. The Fighter's Wind Beast should be used regularly as well as the Shepherd's Stampede attack and the Hybrid skill Sword Dance.

Do not rely on Jann to heal the party. If you are in need of healing, have Maribel use the Bless Staff.
Appearing as a rank A member of the Demon family, Gracos also has a small role in the piracy side-quest of the game, being summoned as one of the many monsters the player must confront while tracking down Captain Crow. One possible synthesis for a Gracos is combining a Merman with an Archdemon.
Etymology
Gracos is a transliteration of Glaucus--one of the half-human sons of the god Poseidon. He is a patron of sailors whose story is detailed in Ovid's Metamorphosis.

Trivia
Why Gracos wanted to prevent Magic Burst from being used against his master is unclear since it actually isn't a very good spell for magic-users to use because it depletes all their MP.

Malroth, also known as Master of Destruction (also known as Sidoh in the Game Boy games), is the final boss of the video game Dragon Quest II (also known as Dragon Warrior II), as well as its remakes. It also appears as the posthumous antagonist and cataclysmic menace in Dragon Quest Builders 2. Malroth is not mentioned in his debut game until the finale, except for a false idol bearing his likeness which is found in a cave and is needed to uncover the Cave to Rendarak. Malroth can use the spell of Fullheal in his original appearance, leading to infamy amongst fans and adding to the already considerable challenge of DQII.

Characteristics
Malroth is a large, chimeric abomination covered mostly in blue scales (green in the original NES Dragon Quest II) and wearing only a necklace with a skull on it. He has six limbs, four of which appear to be arms, a massive pair of demonic wings and a serpent for a tail. His mouth is always shown as being a wide-opened grin, fangs clearly visible.

Being a god of destruction, Malroth is immensely powerful and more than capable of living up to his title. In all of his appearances Malroth has almost never spoken, preferring annihilation over conversation. At the start of Dragon Quest II, Malroth is only alluded to and rarely by his name. All that is first hinted to is his penchant for destruction and the fact that the Children of Hargon threatens all of Alefgard by trying to summon him. Being the cult's object of worship, Malroth is highly esteemed by his devotees--not that this matters to him, as his description in IX states that he doesn't mind where his sacrifices come from.

The player's party does not come face-to-face with the mighty demon until after Hargon is slain. When the party tries to move away from Hargon's throne their path will be blocked by flames and the floor will begin to break apart, heralding Malroth's return. Though successful in defeating Hargon, the sorcerer summoned the god of destruction in death, leaving the heroes to contend with him in the final battle.

Personality
As aforementioned, the vast majority of his appearances Malroth has little discernible personality outside of being a god of destruction who demands sacrifices. The major exception to this is his appearance in Dragon Quest Builders 2, where he is one of the game's main characters.

In his humanoid form he initially has no inkling of his true nature as the Master of Destruction. His amnesia and severely weakened state appear to be what allow him to begin to form attachments to others.

Regardless, Malroth retains a violent disposition and defaults to casually threatening those that annoy him; though he refrains from actually harming helpless nuisances. He has a particular habit of threatening to kill Lulu as a sacrifice to him, though he does so jokingly (probably). His tastes stray from what could be considered normal: he expresses his approval of the architecture used by the Children of Hargon, enjoys dark and subterranean areas, thinks that False Idols are "cool", and likes Lulu's cooking.

Malroth demonstrates a lack of knowledge on many concepts, with an almost childlike ignorance at times. During his adventure with the Builder, three concepts in particular catch his interest: "dreams", "love", and "conviction". When Lulu arranges a party for him and the Builder he is not sure how to act and thinks it is a pointless gesture, but appreciates it anyway.

Malroth does not understand typical social graces and is often prone to outbursts and bluntness, leading to some humorous exchanges early on and less humorous conflicts later. He quickly develops a habit of using a high-five with the Builder as a celebratory gesture, but he is unsure of what inspired him to start doing so. Over the course of their adventure, he becomes close friends with the Builder. startHis attachment to the Builder lasts even after Hargon forces him to attain his true form. When he and the Builder clash, he very obviously holds himself back despite expressing his desire to consume the Builder moments beforehand. The great dissonance between his newly developed sentimentality and desire for destruction causes him to split into two entities, his human avatar which retains said sentimentality, and his unrestrained true form which retains its single-minded directive for destruction. Malroth is later able to recombine and the personality developed during his time with the Builder appears to have attained dominance.end

History
Malroth was the deity that Hargon and his cult worshiped; though he is never directly mentioned. Hargon sacrifices his body to be able to summon it as a last resort before the faux High Priest's defeat at the hands of the heroes.

Malroth's name is only mentioned occasionally within the game and does not truly appear until the very ending. In the original NES version the False Idol is known as the Eye of Malroth, this marks the only time he is slightly referenced; but there still exist statues in several dungeons that depict him. In contemporary remakes, like the Android version, summoning a deity of destruction is mentioned to be Hargon's ultimate goal but never referred to with its name until the end.

It is revealed in Dragon Quest Builders 2 that his name is known only in the highest ranks among the Children of Hargon, this was presumably thought up by Hargon himself so that only he could address the deity and, by this tactic, it could only listen personally to his nihilist pleas.

After its original appearance, it has become a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest Monsters series as well as other spin-offs.
Dragon Quest Builders 2
Malroth is a major character appearing in Dragon Quest Builders 2. He accompanies the player as a helpful NPC for the majority of the game.

Malroth initially appears as an amnesiac humanoid, differing from true humans by his elongated pointed ears and bright red eyes, on the Isle of Awakening. Malroth decides to accompany the Builder after being intrigued by the Builder's power to create items and materials, an ability he distinctly lacks. He also decides he has nothing better to do as he is unable to remember anything. During the course of his adventure with the Builder a friendship forms between the two. He also begins to hear an unidentified voice in his head attempting to guide his actions, similarly to how the original Builder in Dragon Quest Builders heard the voice of Rubiss.
start
Malroth grows more powerful the more the Builder creates. He begins getting intense destructive urges with his growth, causing him increasing distress, as he does not know the source of these desires. As his power swells, the voice in his head becomes progressively more active; its suggestions begin taking darker and darker tinges. Malroth is initially only mildly annoyed, but becomes increasingly concerned by being called the "Master of Destruction" and suggestions of murdering the Builder. Despite the increasing severity, he attempts to keep the incidents with the voice in his head mostly to himself.

Troubled by being unable to create, he begins valuing himself purely on his ability to destroy objects and defeat monsters to help the Builder. This attitude on his self-worth eventually festers and twists into resentment when the Builder starts constructing traps and other devices that he thinks he is being replaced with. This festering, and the fact that his desire for destruction grows as the Builder builds, is what allows Hargon, the owner of the voice Malroth had been hearing in his thoughts, to override the personality his human form has developed and begin his transformation into his true form as the Lord and Master of Destruction.

Hargon also reveals the world that the Builder and Malroth have been exploring is nothing but the lingering illusion created by himself; even Hargon himself is surprised that the illusory world has persisted after his death in the real one.

Malroth's sentimentality for the Builder remains even after he attains his true form; this is demonstrated when he intentionally avoids destroying the first item the Builder ever made for him: a simple Oaken Club. Despite his threatening speech, wherein he says that he will devour the Builder as a "reward" for the happy memories they shared, he, literally using one set of arms to restrain the other, holds himself back during the battle. Upon his defeat he comments that the Builder is much stronger than the last time they were together and is happy that the Builder's promise to stop him if he changed for the worse was kept. His high-fiving habit proves strong enough that he even raises a shaking claw to receive a high-five from the Builder after being defeated.

Malroth splits into two entities after said high-five. The humanoid Malroth, with his memories and sentimentality, is ripped from the rest of him, allowing the destruction-seeking Malroth to arise at full power unrestrained. After the Master of Destruction leaves, the humanoid Malroth is left with an injured Builder. Out of desperation, he repeatedly attempts to concoct medicinal herbs and is eventually successful, marking his first act of creation. Malroth then assists the Builder in defeating Hargon his other half, Malroth then re-absorbs the power said half took from him. Using his newfound godlike powers, he transforms Hargon's world of illusions into a real world to prevent it from fading away. Upon completion of stabilizing the world, Malroth appears to revert to a mostly powerless state and stays with the Builder on Awakening Isle.end

Trivia
* Malroth appears to be inspired by Shiva, the Hindu god of destruction and one of the three principle deities of Hinduism. Shiva is commonly depicted as having blue skin and multiple arms and is known as the Destroyer. However, Shiva is also known as the Creator as well, as new creation couldn't take place without first having destruction.

* It is speculated that the gauntlet of bosses in Hargon's castle (Atlas, Pazuzu, Belial) were, worst case scenario, at least meant to stall the heroes while Hargon performed the ritual to summon Malroth. Since Hargon was defeated before the ritual was finished, he sacrificed what little life he had left as a last ditch effort to summon the God of Destruction. This raises the question of how more powerful Malroth's avatar would be if the ritual was completed properly.
