Lucky Dip is a skill that causes a character to goof-off instead of focusing on the battle at hand, performing wild antics for their own amusement. Some of these actions will help the party in battle, while others will reveal a hidden side of the user's personality. Most are flat out stupid, however, and waste the character's turn.

Appearances
Lucky Dip is learned by advancing to rank 1 of the Gadabout vocation. Each character (save for Amos) has a list of unique actions that are performed when the skill is used, with a new shenanigan being added to their repertoire as they advance in vocation rank.
Lucky Dip returns after a long absence as one of the Gadabout's exclusive skills, learned by investing 16 skill points into its Play skill tree. Due to the nature of MMORPG characters all being made by the players rather than the game's writers, the Gadabout performs one of 20 general actions instead of something more personal. The skill is more useful than before, however, as it will only activate when selected from the command menu and only 4 of the actions can be considered detrimental to the party. None of these jokes have distinct names as the text box only describes that Lucky Dip has been used, but the Gadabout will make a pun based on the action. These japes include:
*Increasing the attack of all allies by 40% for 60 seconds
*Increasing the defence of all allies by 40% for 60 seconds
*Shortening the action interval of all allies for 60 seconds
*Increases evasion rate of all allies by 1/8th for 60 seconds
*Fully heal & revive all allies
*Negates 15 points of damage for all allies for 60 seconds
*Increases the Gadabout's magical might & magical mending by 20% for 60 seconds
*The Gadabout throws a small stone like a baseball, dealing 6~12 Earth damage to one enemy
*The Gadabout practices juggling rocks and succeeds, dealing 10~24 Earth damage to enemies within range
*Decreases the attack of all enemies within immediate proximity by 40% for 60 seconds
*Decreases the defence of all enemies within immediate proximity by 40% for 60 seconds
*Decreases the elemental damage resistance of all enemies within immediate proximity by 40% for 60 seconds
*The Gadabout tells a joke and stuns all enemies with laughter for 15 seconds
*Frightens all enemies for 15 seconds
*Negates the damage caused by one enemy once
*The Gadabout practices juggling rocks but fails, damaging themselves for 10~60 Earth damage
*The Gadabout falls asleep for 60 seconds
*The Gadabout remembers a frightening ghost story and becomes stunned for 20 seconds
*The Gadabout becomes paralyzed for 60 seconds
*The Gadabout is struck with sudden inspiration but instantly forgets what the breakthrough was, wasting their action

Trivia
*Lizzie balancing on a ball is a reference to the lyrics of Cha La Head Cha La, the first opening theme song of the anime adaptation of Akira Toriyama's Dragon Ball Z. Specifically, the lyrics contain the phrase "If there were a dinosaur inside, I'd want to train it to ride a ball!"

Cantlin is a walled city located in the south central region of Alefgard in DQ and DQ3.

Cantlin is most famous for it's heavy fortifications and for being guarded by a Golem in the original game. It was recently featured in DQB as the starting city, followed by Rimuldar.

Appearances
DQ
The city of Cantlin is typically the last city the player visits due to it's distance from Tantegel and the strength of the surrounding monsters. When first approached, the city is guarded by a Golem whose battle is triggered when the Hero 1 first attempts to enter the ramparts surrounding the city. This battle is a one time event, and is the only place where a Golem can be encountered. The weapons and armor shop in Cantlin sells the best equipment the character can purchase in the game. Despite all of this, Cantlin is a not a required location to visit in order to complete the game.

The people of Cantlin have given into despair due to Zoma's tyranny, with the shops being left unattended and the merchants languishing in the streets. A family above the unmanaged inn despair as their child is slowly succumbing to his misery of living in such a world, and even withdraws his plea to The Hero 3 to slay the archfiend out of hopelessness. The man in the next room over researches the technique to build an artificial guardian for the town, but with the people seeing the futility in even tending the fields it is a wasted effort. The only person not depressed is Galen the bard, who traveled to the town after a falling out with his parents.

A Monster Arena lies beneath the town, where some citizens go to project themselves into the life and death struggles of the monsters to feel alive. It's just a distraction from the somber reality that surrounds them, and the only one to not dupe themselves into the false furor is a little girl looking for her father.

The elder of Cantlin will instruct the player to travel to the Sanctum after acquiring the Sunstone, Staff of Rain, and Sacred amulet. This will open the way to Zoma's Citadel.

After the devil is defeated, the people of Cantlin will find new meaning in life and beseech the hero as their savior, with the languishing child becoming active again and the researching tossing away his notes for future generations to pick up instead now that the town no longer needs a guardian.
A Golem appears as the boss of the Gate of Talisman traveler's gate, with the level being based on the encounter with the Golem in Cantlin from the original game. After defeating it, it will join Terry as a companion.

Cantlin serves as the first area visited by the Builder, and it is the region less affected by the Dragonlord's influence. The Cantlin region consists of four different areas, the town region and three other areas that can be reached by using teleportals:
*Cantlin Plains, where the base will be located.
*Hammerhood Heights, where the builder learns how to make mallets.
*The Damdara Desert.
*Rockbomb Ravine.

These areas collectively serve as the tutorial for the game, easing the player into the concepts of building, crafting, hunger, and the passage of time. Since the hunger meter and passage of time are activated after finishing Pippa's room request, it's adviced players explore and stock as much as possible before doing said quest.

In this chapter, The Builder learns the dark truth of the time Alefgard fell, and how the survivors from Cantlin succumbed to selfishness which only made the Golem rage and destroy the citadel in order to stop humans from hurting each other. While most of the villagers believe the Builder will bring Cantlin to its former glory and defeat the Golem, one of them -a villager named Larouche- isn't so certain. Larouche, despite believing the Builder's efforts will only bring chaos once again, does nothing to stop the Builder and the other villagers from rebuilding Cantlin. In the end, the Golem is defeated and Cantlin is bursting with life once more.

DQB2
Despite Cantlin not appearing directly in the game, it is also established that the Player is originally from Cantlin.

DQTact
The party comes across the city in Chapter 3, Episode 5 of the game's limited Dragon Quest I event, hoping to find some way that will allow them to return to Orchesterra. They are stopped by the Golem, who refuses to let any visitors into the city. Mindini becomes enraged and tries to force her way in with brute force, much to the frustration of her companions.

Etymology
The city takes its name from the Cantlin Stone, which sits near the boarder between England and Wales. The name comes from William Cantlin, a peddler who died under mysterious circumstances between the English Bettws-y-Crwyn parish and the Welsh Kerry parish. An dispute arose over which parish should bury the man who had no family, with Bettws taking the task and claiming the plot of land afterwards. The grave is marked by a cross standing tall in amid the empty field, giving the location its distinction.
Kaclang is a spell which renders the recipient invulnerable, but also unable to act. It was introduced in Dragon Quest III at first exclusive to the hero class. Affects the whole party. Some monsters also have the Kaclang spell.

Seemingly useless at first glance, the spell is actually quite handy to trick an enemy into wasting all their MP, as well as scouting for their abilities.
Called Ironize in this game, it requires the monster to reach level 15 with 62 MP and 58 intelligence. It is naturally learned by the DarkCrab, EvilBeast, EyeBall, MetalKing, Tortragon and WhipBird.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Kaclang is randomly available through the Hero's Down-B move, Command Selection. It renders the hero immune to all damage and knockback, but also means he will be instantly slain by Metal Slash. Additionally, casting the spell while in the air will cause the hero to inflict 15% damage on anyone he falls upon.
Dragon Family (Japanese Katakana: ドラゴン Romanji:Doragon) refers to MFamiliess in DQSeries that take on forms of traditional Western and Eastern dragons, dinosaurs, snakes, and turtles. Occasionally, dragon-shaped MFamiliess or pallet-swaps are classified as members of the Aquatic or Beast families. Additionally, this family is referred to as the Beast family in DQMCH.

The shapes and capabilities of dragons within the series are as varied as in real-world mythology, but these monsters typically have the ability to breathe fire and many possess skills that can Poison and cause Envenomation towards enemies.

Effective weapons and skills
Dragons are vulnerable to the Dragonsbane and Dragon Slayer swords, and as of the ninth game will take an additional 10% damage from any sword. The Dragon Slash skill will deal 50% more damage to dragons.
*Dragonlord, the chief antagonist of the original game. Sometimes classified instead as part of the Boss family.
*Drakky, a Great dragon featured in DQMJ.
The Scarewolf is a recurring monster in the DQSeries, introduced in the original Dragon Quest. It is a brown-furred werewolf that has learned how to use magic.

Characteristics
Scarewolves are brown-furred bipedal wolfmen that don gray tunics and boots with gold tops, a long tail poking out of the bottom of their tunics. Around their waist, they wear belts with a light purple jewel as a buckle. They are deadlier combatants compared to their blue-furred cousins, having gained the ability to cast Fizzle to seal away the magic of adventurers. The lycanthropes are more than capable of ripping enemies to shreds with a combination of their razor-sharp fangs and claws. It has a different color palette in IX, Super Light, and Tact, having a lighter shade of red-orange fur, dull brown tunics and boots, and a blue belt around its waist with a light green jewel on its buckle.
The Skeleton soldier is a recurring MFamilies in the DQSeries, introduced in the original Dragon Quest. It is a stronger variant of the Skeleton with the ability to heal itself with magic.

Characteristics
Skeleton soldiers are garbed in red or olive tunics, dull purple leggings, leather boots and gloves, and a belt with a ruby on its buckle around its waist. They were formerly knights in the living world, but have retained the ability to cast healing magic in undeath. In some games such as the Monsters: Joker spinoffs, the soldiers wield scythes instead of sabres in order to differentiate them from the other skeletons.
Characteristics
As implied by it's name, the Iron scorpion (鉄のさそり) is a metal coated menace that boasts superior defenses than it's organic bug brethren. Due to the text limitations of the Game Boy Color DQ remake, the Iron Scorpion was renamed to MtlScorpion in that version.
