Skysplitter is a sword skill which first appeared in Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai as a creation of the hero Avan. It made its game debut in Dragon Quest XI as the wind equivalent of Gigaslash, cutting through one group of foes with a vacuum blade.
Appearances
Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai
Sky Slash is the last of the three fundamental techniques of the Avan-style sword school, and by far the hardest to master. Opening their third eye, the user sheathes their sword and then performs a draw-cut which strikes directly at the spirit of the opponent. This technique (and its spear counterpart Sky Strike) are capable of isolating and destroying Flazzard's core from among a cloud of pebbles, as well as cutting the strands of dark Aura wielded by Myst-Vearn.

Once mastered, the principles of Sky Slash can be combined with Earth Slash and Wave Slash to perform the school's ultimate technique, Avan Strash.

DQ11
The Luminary learns Skysplitter after speaking to the elder of Havens Above in the game's third act. It costs 16 MP to perform and will deal up to 210~250 damage. If the player has completed quest #60 then the MP cost will double, the base damage will be set to 200~240, and the limit will be raised to 400~440. The Sword of Light or one of its upgrades must be equipped in order to execute the technique.
Gigaslash is a recurring ability in the Dragon Quest series. It slices through a group of enemies with a blade made of ferocious lightning, dealing incredible damage in every appearance.

Appearances
Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai
A prototype of Gigaslash appears in this series in the form of Zapple Strash, a maneuver where Dai enhances the power of his finishing move Avan Strash by first channeling the power of a Zapple spell into his sword. Later he combines it with Baran's similar "Gigabreak" technique (based on Kazap) to create his most powerful attack, Gigastrash.
Anyone in who is/has been a Super Hero (via Rank 7 of the Hero class) can use Gigaslash. In the 3DS remake, Gigaslash is now a class-exclusive ability, requiring the user to be a Hero in order to use it.

DQ8
The hero can learn Gigaslash as a sword-only technique after fully investing 100 skill points into either the "Sword" or "Courage" skills. If both skill are at maximum, he obtains Gigagash instead. The electrified slice targets one enemy group for 20 MP, and damage is calculated as lvl+180 +/- [20+lvl] for a cap of 207~239.

Angelo cannot learn this skill; he obtains Lightning Storm after mastering his sword skill instead.

In Dragon Quest IX, the Gigaslash ability is obtained by allocating 88 skill points to Sword Skill, and can only be used by a character who currently has a sword-class weapon equipped. Its damage output has a base of 160 and a maximum of 360, reached when the sum of the character's magical might and strength reach 300.

DQ11
The Hero will learn gigaslash for 25 points in his Swordmastery skill tree. It costs 16 MP to use, targets all enemies, and deals up to 210~250 lightning damage.

DQM
This ability requires the monster to reach level 33 with 231 HP, 164 MP, 198 attack, 198 agility and 198 intelligence. It is naturally learned by the Esterk, LizardMan and MadKnight. It can also be learned by monsters with FireSlash, BoltSlash, VacuSlash, and IceSlash.

DQM2
GigaSlash now requires 608 intelligence to learn. It is naturally learned by the AsuraZoma, BeastNite, FooHero, Octoraid, Roboster2 and WarMantis.

DQMJ
Gigaslash is described as "a legendary technique for cutting down a single enemy." It costs 16 MP to use and is learned from:

* Captain Crow (55 points)
* Cleric (45 points)
* Über Knight (76 points)

DQMJ2
Gigaslash can be learned from all the skills it could be previously, as well as from Bjorn for 70 points, or from Ruin for 100 points.
