			The earliest known instance of a mirror shield belongs to the myth of Perseus, who was given extraordinary armaments by the gods in his task to slay Medusa. Among these was the fantastic Aegis shield from Athena, which is described in equal amounts as being either a true mirror in the modern sense or a plate of beaten bronze polished so finely it served as a mirror.
