This is ill-advised if the player is aiming to incorporate the egg into the breeding chart of a rare monster or simply has a specific nickname in mind, as the sex, abilities, resistances, and general leveling pace are all hidden. Instead, players are recommended to take the incubating bundle of joy to the [[Egg evaluator|Egg Evaluator]] for an assessment prior to hatching.

Monster eggs made a return after a prolonged absence due to the series switching from traditional breeding to [[monster synthesis]] in the first ''Joker'' game. The player could purchase eggs after participating in the tournaments held every Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday over the now defunct [[Nintendo DS]] wi-fi connection. Victory in said tournaments was not necessary, though only one egg could be purchased at a time.

Once obtained, the eggs could be placed at the foot of a sacred tree and left to incubate over 4, 8, or 12 hours measured via the DS' internal clock.
