Erdrick's Hollow
Erdrick's Hollow, also known as Erdrick's Cave, is a dungeon in Dragon Quest. It is located northwest of Tantegel surrounded by desert. It is typically the first cave visited in the game and contains Erdrick's Tomb. It is the only location in the original Dragon Quest, barring towns, where monsters are not encountered.

Appearances edit
Dragon Quest edit
The cave is a very simple pseudo-dungeon meant to teach the player how to explore underground chambers with dwindling torch light without the added pressure of monsters. The cave is entirely optional and only contains Erdrick's Tablet in the original version and a monolith bearing Erdrick's mark in all other versions; both of these serve the purpose of instructing the player on how to cross the sea to reach the Dragonlord's Castle.
Dragon Quest I HD-2D Remake edit
The cave is now known as Erdrick's Hollow. Unlike previous versions of the game, it is now mandatory to visit it and the player will also encounter monsters here while exploring the dungeon. When the Hero visits the Hollow, he will encounter a group of novice adventurers that try to trick him. However, they are afraid of the monsters in the cave and are unable to venture into its depths.
