For the monster vocation in Dragon Quest VII, see Well wisher (vocation).

The Well wisher is a recurring monster in the series, first appearing in Dragon Quest VI.

Characteristics[edit | edit source]

The well wisher is a muscular red monster that looks as though it is crawling out of the top of a well. It has wart-covered skin, large spikes on its back, and a long tail. They often ambush adventurers who peer into wells, but have also been observed walking around and carrying stone wellheads around their waists. The monsters attack by hurling rocks and shouting suddenly to startle enemies.

3DS version changes
Experience decreased, but gold increased.

A boss version of well wisher is faced at the bottom of the Roots of Ygg, attempting to prevent the party from purifying its waters. Care should be taken as it is capable of incapacitating the party by putting them to sleep or intimidating them with its sudden shouts. At least one character should have access to Dawn Chorus to keep the party awake and Sap is recommended as it has no resistance against it.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Super Light[edit | edit source]

Dragon Quest of the Stars[edit | edit source]

Dragon Quest Rivals[edit | edit source]

Etymology[edit | edit source]

Their name is based upon the term well wisher, which means someone that desires happiness and success for others, often openly expressing such. This is at odds with a monster that hides in wells to attack people. Traditionally, people also throw money into the bottom of wells in the hopes of having their wishes granted.
