The onion slime is a glob that has taken on properties of the nature family, but in a different manner than the buddy slime. Any relation to the ornery onions, if any, is unknown.
The onion slime is the mascot of Dragon Quest Island, the theme park located in Awaji Island, the birthplace of Yuji Horii.
