The Phantom swordsman is a monster in the series.

Characteristics

The phantom swordsman is a disembodied spirit wearing a ragged, magenta cloak and wielding a rusty silver sword. According to their monster description in various games, they were formerly swordsmen that were driven mad by the demonic swords they wield. They are able to perform various abilities with their swords, such as calling down bolts of lightning or placing curses on their opponents.

Phantom swordsman appears as a B-rank monster of the Undead family as part of the Dragon Quest VIII event. It can be recruited from the Dark Ruins on B4, 9, and 15, eventually becoming recruitable in Part 3 of the main storyline from Chapter 8, Episode 4: Further and Further... The phantom swordsman can participate in Yangus and Purrcy's Battle Roads as a party member.
