The '''Dark shield''' is a recurring shield in the ''Dragon Quest'' series, first introduced in ''[[Dragon Quest V]]''. When it first appeared, it was a shield designed specifically for monster companions, but in modern games, it became a jet-black colored version of the [[Ogre shield]].

The dark shield has a defence bonus of +37, but can only be equipped by certain monster companions. It casts [[Absorb Magic]] when used as a tool in battle. One can be found in the basement of [[Talon Tower]] and it can be dropped by [[Hyperanemon]]s. It can be sold for 4,900 gold.
