==2026 (40th anniversary)==
Square Enix Japan held a 2-hour livestream in which they announced multiple merchandise collaborations to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the series. During this livestream, a Nintendo Switch 2 version of [[Dragon Quest XI]] was announced.

The company later posted a video on Youtube in which  they unveiled the next mainline game: ''[[Dragon Quest XII: Beyond Dreams]]''. Producer Yosuke Saito offered an explanation regarding the long development and rename of the project. Mr. Saito and Yuji Horii also teased the next installment of the monster-raising series subseries: ''[[Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World]]'', starring Bianca and Nera from Dragon Quest V.
