'''Machine Family''' (Japanese Katakana: マシン Romanji:''Mashin'') refers to monsters in [[Dragon Quest (series)|''Dragon Quest'' series]] that have mechanical bodies, ranging from full-on robots such as the [[Killing machine]]s to automated slot machines such as the [[Penny pincher (monster)|Penny pincher]]s. Due to the fantasy-based nature of the series, mechanical monsters are among the rarest of any family; these rust buckets also boast incredible resistances to status ailments of all varieties and a high tolerance for elemental damage save for [[Zap|lightning]]. In some spin-offs, members of this family are included within the [[Material family]].

==Effective skills and weapons==
The aptly named [[Can Opener]] technique will deal significantly high damage to machines in every game it appears in, and the [[Giant wrench]], [[Handrills]], & [[Hammer handrills]] will deal an extra 20% damage.
*the [[Metal Slash]] skill will deal 150% damage to machine family monsters in all versions of the sixth game, but not in any other title that features the ability.
