A '''Non-Player Character''' (NPC) is a general gaming term for any non-player controlled character. In the {{DQSeries}}, these characters range from townspeople who do nothing more than talk to the player, to [[party]] members which are completely controlled by the computer. In many cases, completing game scenarios and quests revolves around finding specific NPCs who can aid the player in some way.

==Trivia==
*In the {{NES}} version of {{Dragon Quest IV}} and {{Super Famicom}} Version of {{Dragon Quest V}}, NPCs [[Healie]], [[Laurel]], [[Orifiela]], [[Honey]] and [[Pankraz]] were completely uncontrollable.  In all remakes of the games, Healing Spells known by the characters can be used manually out of battle.
