The '''Badger mager''' is a recurring monster in the series, first appearing in {{Dragon Quest IX}}. It is a novice spellcasting monster based on the Tanuki of Japanese mythology.

==Characteristics==
The badger mager is a [[Beast family|mammalian]] apprentice mage wielding a large autumn leaf that doubles as a spell-casting tool and surprisingly reliable weapon. While only a novice in the blustery arcane arts, the badger mager can be a threat in the early stages of the game if called forth by a [[leafy larrikin]].
