The '''Zombie mail''' is armour in the series.

==Characteristics==
A suit of armour with an ominous appearance that has been crafted from the bones of a zombie. In all but two of its appearances, it is a piece of [[Curses|cursed]] equipment that slowly saps the wearer's HP for each step taken. Due to the removal of all cursed equipment in ''Dragon Quest XI'', the zombie mail actually reduces damage taken from dark-elemental attacks and helps protect the wearer from curses.
*The original design from the NES version of ''Dragon Quest IV'' is a full suit of armour, with skulls as shoulder pads, a helmet with a jawbone, a rib cage on the torso, and horned skulls on the boots, as well.
*The design from remake versions of ''Dragon Quest IV'' is more sparse, consisting of a suit of mail made from yellowish-green bones, horned skulls with blue eyes as shoulder pads, and a spiked fauld worn over the waist. This design is used for all other appearances.

The Zzombie mail has a {{Defence}} bonus of +49 and can be equipped by the {{Hero 4}}, [[Ragnar]], and [[Psaro (Character)|Psaro]]. It is a piece of [[Curses|cursed]] equipment that reduces the wearer's HP by 1 for each step taken. In the original NES version, the wearer's HP would decrease until it reaches 0, but in remake version, the wearer's HP will stop at 1. It is part of Psaro's initial equipment and he is able to equip it without penalty. One set is found in a treasure chest on 3F of [[Four Dens of Nadiria|Aamon's Den]]. It has a {{fraction|1|256}} chance of being dropped by [[Drooling ghoul]] and [[Sekerleton]], as well as a {{fraction|1|64}} chance of being dropped by [[Decayurion]] in remake versions of the game.

The Zombie mail has a defence bonus of +42 and can be equipped by [[Angelo]], as well as [[Morrie]] in the Nintendo 3DS version. It is cursed and reduces the wearer's HP by 1 when walking in areas where monsters can be encountered. One set can be found in a treasure chest on the island in the northwest where the [[Dark Ruins]] are located, requiring the [[Magic key]] to open. Zombie mail can be made in the [[Alchemy Pot]] and can be purified with [[Saint's ashes]] to create [[Platinum mail]]. It can only be sold for 250 gold. Zombie mail has a {{fraction|1|256}} chance of being dropped by [[Dark dullahan]].
