The Magic Key is located on the 3rd basement of the [[Pyramid]]. It is the 2nd key acquired in the game. The key is required in order to reach [[Portoga]] and progress in the game. In order to get the key, the {{Hero 3}}'s {{Party 3}} must solve a button puzzle which involves pressing 4 buttons in the correct order. The solution is hinted by young boys in the castle of [[Isis]].  As of this game, Magic Key's have unlimited use.

It's revealed at the end that an old man wants to mass produce Magic Keys of his own, explaining why they were flimsy and broke upon use in the first game.

The Magic Key was created through alchemy by [[Mahabala]], and is found in the [[Cave West of Aubout du Monde]] during {{DQ4 Chapter 5}}. It must be obtained in order to open the warded doors at [[Palais de Léon]].

It is found by searching the {{chest}} where the [[Night light]] was/is for a button.  The button will only show up during {{DQ4 Chapter 5}}.  The room within requires the [[Thief's Key]] to obtain the Magic Key.

During {{DQ4 Chapter 4}}, the doors requiring the key will open with [[Oojam]] present (in the {{NES}} version, he breaks the door down, while he merely picks the lock in the {{DS}} and [[Cell phone]] version).

The Magic Key is found in a {{chest}} in a warehouse at [[Lofty Peak]], along with the [[Flying Carpet]].

The King of [[Howcastle]] presents the {{Hero 6}} and {{Party 6}} with a Magic Key after their escort of [[List of characters in Dragon Quest VI#Non-Combatant Members|Prince Howard]] through the [[Hallowed Hollow]].

The Magic Key is found in a chest in [[Trodain]] Castle.

The Magic Key is found at the [[Mirage Mahal]] in [[Gleeba]]. It allows access to warded doors.

The Magic Key is found in the Nhou Wat ruins connected to [[Phnom Nonh]]. It is in possession of [[Dora-in-Grey]] in the Nhou Wat mural, and she drops the key when she is defeated. The Magic Key is needed to obtain the [[Purple Orb]] in the ruins of [[Zwaardsrust]]. It is also a prerequisite for obtaining the [[Blue Orb]] in [[Sniflheim]], as the city gates are blocked by ice and the only available doorway requires the Magic Key. In his [[Party Chat]] dialogue after the Magic Key is acquired, [[Rab]] mentions both of these doors, which is helpful for first-time players.
