==Characteristics==
Old flames have a near identical appearance to their lesser forms, being fire [[Elemental family|elemental]]s that with a vaguely humanoid shape with a mischievous grinning face. They are now composed of deep crimson flames, with blue flames closer to the center of their bodies. According to their bestiary description in ''X'', an old flame is formed when a dancing flame has continued to burn unextinguished for 1,000 years, evolving into a more powerful form closer to that of primordial flame. Its fire abilities are much stronger than those of an ordinary dancing flame.

The old flame that appears in ''Tact'' has the demeanor of a stereotypical elderly person, injuring his back with the slightest physical exertion, becoming belligerent at the drop of a hat, and insisting that he is younger and stronger than he is actually capable. He is old friends with [[Cogsgrove]], the Mayor of Ibbley.
