The scale shield has a defense bonus of +7.  They can be bought for 180 gold in [[Roundbeck]], [[Fortuna]], [[Lodestar Harbour]], [[Zoomingale]], and [[Gotha]]. The [[Hero (Dragon Quest V)|Hero]], [[Bianca]], [[Nera]], [[Hero's Son (Dragon Quest V)|Son]], [[Hero's Daughter (Dragon Quest V)|Daughter]], [[Harry]], [[Sancho]], and [[Tuppence]] can equip it.

[[Headhunter|headhunters]], [[wild boarfish]], and [[Yabby|yabbies]] drop them rarely. Its alchemy recipe is [[leather shield]] + [[dragon scale]].
