Both of Rhapthorne's forms appear as S-rank members of the ??? family during the original ''Dragon Quest VIII'' event. His first form can also be battled in the [[Black Citadel]] in Journey of the Cursed King and his true form is also faced as a Mega Boss Battle. 

Starting from the 1.5 year anniversary, the "All Out Battle! Rhapthorne" edition was added to the game, where Rhapthorne's first form would join the player after defeating him on Very Hard Mode. The player can earn Rhapthorne Marks by defeating other Demon Lords and exchanging them for Rhapthorne Crystals, which can be used to fully awaken him.
