At the start of the game, the {{Hero 3}} becomes a lazybones by receiving the final test of character in the forest. Before leaving the test, the hero must push no more than one boulder to the old man, or avoid the task altogether. Other party members have a chance to be a lazybones when talent scouted at [[Patty's Party Planning Place]] as any class, depending on their stat bonuses. {| class="listTable" ! scope="col" | Class / gender ! scope="col" | Stat bonuses for lazybones (chance) |- | {{DQIII sprite|Warrior male Warrior female Martial Artist male Martial Artist female}} | * Resilience bonus highest, ≤5, Agility/wisdom/luck second ({{fraction|3|17}}) * Luck bonus highest, 7–11 ({{fraction|1|4}}) |- | {{DQIII sprite|Mage male Priest male}} | * Strength bonus highest, ≤6, agility/luck second ({{fraction|1|11}}) * Luck bonus highest, 6–11 ({{fraction|2|8}}) |- | {{DQIII sprite|Mage female Priest female}} | * Strength bonus highest, ≤6, agility/luck second ({{fraction|1|13}}) * Luck bonus highest, 6–11 ({{fraction|2|8}}) |- | {{DQIII sprite|Merchant male Merchant female}} | * Resilience bonus highest, ≤5, Agility/wisdom/luck second ({{fraction|3|17}}) |- | {{DQIII sprite|Gadabout male}} | * Resilience bonus highest, ≤5, Agility/wisdom/luck second ({{fraction|2|8}}) * Wisdom bonus highest, ≤5 ({{fraction|4|18}}) * Luck bonus highest, ≤5 ({{fraction|6|29}}) |- | {{DQIII sprite|Gadabout female}} | * Resilience bonus highest, ≤5, Agility/wisdom/luck second ({{fraction|2|10}}) * Wisdom bonus highest, ≤5 ({{fraction|4|18}}) * Luck bonus highest, ≤5 ({{fraction|6|29}}) |- | {{DQIII sprite|Thief male}} | * Resilience bonus highest, ≤5, Agility/wisdom/luck second ({{fraction|2|8}}) |- | {{DQIII sprite|Thief female}} | * Resilience bonus highest, ≤5, Agility/wisdom/luck second ({{fraction|2|10}}) |} An existing character cannot become a lazybones through items.
