Rarefied monsters were first added to the game in the 1.1 version update, and have a 1/256th chance to appear. The first set of rarefied monsters were handpicked by the development team from fan submissions after advertising the feature online and in magazines several months prior to the update, and many later additions were also developed by fans. The original seven rarefied monsters are:

An item to increase the odds of encountering a rarefied monster, the ''Kiseki no Perfume'' (きせきの香水), was added in the 2.0 update. The perfume raises the encounter rate to 1/32nd for thirty minutes, and can be purchased from a [[Casino]] for 1,500 tokens. With the 3.0 update, bottles can also be won in various [[Treasures 'n' Trapdoors]] boards.
