The mod rod serves the same role as in previous versions of the game, but a spare unit is now given to the player for beating rank 8 of the [[Monster Arena]]. This is crucial as one of the challenges in the [[Temple of Trials]] requires the player to present no less than twenty-five bottles of [[elfin elixir]], which can only be purchased in the [[Super Secret Faerie Village]].
