Air Slash and [[Skysplitter]] are the same skill in the Japanese language, with the English discrepancy possibly being due to [[Square Enix]] using a different translation contractor for ''[[Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai|Adventure of Dai]]'' and its spin-offs than the usual groups for mainline games.

Air Slash is the last of the three fundamental techniques of the Avan-style sword school, and by far the hardest to master. Opening their third eye, the user sheathes their sword and then performs a draw-cut which strikes directly at the spirit of the opponent. This technique is capable of isolating and destroying [[Flazzard]]'s core from among a cloud of pebbles, as well as cutting the strands of Dark Aura wielded by [[Mystvearn]].

Once mastered, the principles of Air Slash can be combined with [[Earthsplitter|Earth Slash]] and [[Seasplitter|Wave Slash]] to perform the school's ultimate technique, [[Avan Strash]].

Avan developed counterparts of this technique for other weapons as well, though the only one shown in the series is the spear-based [[Air Strike]].

Air Slash can be learned by [[Dai]] at level 52 and costs 60 MP to use. It has a range of up to 3 squares away from him in any direction and inflicts 300% [[Woosh]]-type physical damage to a single enemy. Upgrading the skill increases its damage and reduces the amount of MP it costs to use. Air Slash's potency can be increased another 20% through [[Talent Blossoming]].
