Incomplete Baran is a major character in DQDai, and the biological father of Dai. He serves as the main antagonist of the Dragon Knight act, but he later teams up with the Disciples of Avan to defeat Vearn. ==Appearances== ===DQDai=== Section-Stub Baran is first introduced as the Dragon Master General, the general of the Dragon Legion of Hadlar's Dark Army. Baran holds an unyielding grudge towards humans for how they treated him and his family in the past. Due to this grudge, Baran decided that humanity needed to be cleansed from the world, and thus he joined the Dark Army. Baran is a Dragon Knight, a lineage of warriors that is supposed to bring balance to the world. Due to their immense power, the gods only allow one Dragon Knight to be born each generation. However, something special happened during Baran's time. Fifteen years prior to the start of Dai's adventure, Baran was supposed to deal with Hadlar who was threatening the balance in the world but it was a human hero who vanquished Hadlar instead. Meanwhile, Baran was in the underworld fighting Velzar, the last intelligent dragon who sought to conquer the world. After vanquishing the dragon, Baran was mortally wounded so he used his remaining strength to find the Fountain of Miracles, which is said to heal Dragon Knights. He got close to the water, but his exhaustion forbid him from reaching it. It was then he met Soala, a young human woman who helped him drink from the healing fountain. Soala was the princess of the Kingdom of Alkeed. They eventually fell in love while Baran recovered from battle, and had Soala's father approval. However some vassals who didn't like a foreigner getting closer to the throne came to conspire against him. Due to his non-human nature and the recent memory of what a darkling tried not long ago, Baran was banished from the kingdom, but before leaving, Soala revealed to him that she was pregnant. The couple then moved to a forest in Teran, where they lived peacefully for some months until their child was born. Soala proposed naming their son "Dino", which means "strong dragon" in the Alkeed language. Their happy days didn't last long and ended when a battalion of soldiers from Alkeed, lead by their king who thought the dragon knight had kidnapped his daughter, found them. Baran surrendered quickly, as long as his lover and child didn't suffer any harm, to which the king agreed as long as the child was raised somewhere else. The baby was sent to a foreign land on a ship, but that ship got lost at sea and ended up wrecking near Dermline Island where Brass would find him. The day of his execution, Baran was ready to accept his fate, but he didn't expect Soala to sacrifice herself to save him from the fire balls. Soala's last words encouraged Baran to find Dino and leave in peace with humanity after. However, hearing Soala's father call her a disgrace for dying for a non-human filled the dragon knight with rage and hatred for humanity. His wrath soon brought the complete destruction of the Kingdom of Alkeed. Unable to find Dino, Baran despaired and Dark King Vearn took that chance to convince him to join the Dark Army to destroy humanity. While Dai was learning more about the Dragon Knights in the Dragon Knight Temple in Teran, Baran also entered the sanctuary. Baran revealed himself and the truth about Dragon Knights to the little hero, who was shocked to learn about his own lineage. Soon after, Baran proposes his son joins the Dark Army to destroy humanity, which Dai refuses. ==Other Appearances== ===DQStars=== Baran appears as a boss in the collaboration events with the Japanese version of the game. There is some gacha equipment based on his humanoid form that allows players to dress up as him. Defeating Baran in his fiend difficulty boss fight might reward the player with items to look like Dragonoid Baran. ===DQTact=== Section-Stub Baran appears in the final part of the limited The First Adventure of Dai event, with both his human and Dragonoid forms appearing as S-rank members of the Dragon family. His Human form will join the party by clearing Dragon Master General Baran! on Advanced mode, and he can be fully awakened by collecting Baran Crystals from completing various challenges. Baran in this form also stars in his own Battle Road. {{DQTactEnemy |name=Baran |kanji=バラン |romanji=Baran |sprite= |family=
Dragon |rank= |role=
Attack |lvl=130 |hp=908 |mp=330 |move=2 |attack=538 |defense=328 |agility=351 |wisdom=417 |weight=50 |bskill1=Kasnooze |bskill2=Kazap* |bskill3=Gigabreak*
Talent Blossoming: Dragon Blood |askill1=Draconic Aura
Stats up |askill2=Sizz Res +25 / Stats up |askill3=Gigabreak Potency +5% / Stats Up
Rare WIS Up: Rarely raises WIS for 4 turns at action start. |askill4=Crack Res +25 / Stats up |askill5=Gigabreak Potency +5% / Stats Up
Soala's Bond: Grants x1.5 physical potency/recovery for 1 turn at the start of turn 3. |lperk1=Raises defense for all Dragon allies, including himself, by 30% in a 5x5 square around him. |bperk1=Dragon Legion Commander: Raises ATK for dragons in the surrounding rhombus for 3 turns (self: 4 turn) at action start on even turns until turn 10. |bperk2=ATK +15
DEF +20 |bperk3=Gigabreak Potency +2% |aperk1=Draconic Aura: Action start: When HP is 20% or over, raises Move and reduces damage by 20%. |frizz-resist=Normal |sizz-resist=Half Res |crack-resist=Half Res |woosh-resist=Very Weak |bang-resist=Normal |zap-resist=Normal |zam-resist=Very Weak |snooze-resist=Normal |poison-resist=Normal |physical-seal-resist=Half Res |spell-seal-resist=Normal |martial-seal-resist=Normal |breath-seal-resist=Normal |hobble-resist=Half res |stun-resist=Immune |blind-resist=Super Weak |curse-resist=Normal |paralysis-resist=Super Weak |confusion-resist=Normal |charm-resist=Normal }} Dragonoid Baran appears on his own banner, alongside Flazzard. Baran appears as a boss in both of his forms, and as a playable character. Baran currently holds the honor of being the hardest boss in this game, due to his extremely difficult boss fight in the "Dragon Knight Challenger" event. Baran is still known as one of the favourite characters in the whole series. ==Gallery== <gallery> DQMSL Baran.jpg|Baran in Super Light DQMSL Dragonoid Baran.jpg|Dragonoid Baran in Super Light DQT Baran 1.png|Baran as he appears in DQTact. Notoriously, the overlapping broadcasts of both series' animated adaptations led to two episodes airing in the same week where a monstrously powerful mustachioed "hero" in a red costume brutally assaulted his half-human son for daring to side with humanity. clear DQDaiNav
