==Characteristics==
The Blizzard blade has had three different designs throughout the series history:
*The original design from the Erdrick trilogy is a longsword featuring a blade made from a icy blue metal that has an ice crystal design on the fuller and a snowflake on the pommel.
*The design from ''Dragon Quest VII'' and the remake versions of ''V'' and ''VI'' appears to have been carved from ice with a handle made from metal with a blue grip.
*The blizzard blade from ''Dragon Quest VIII'' is a curved sword like a sabre with a blade covered in ice and a snowflake design on the hilt.
Originally, it would cast [[Crackle]] on a group of enemies when used as a tool in battle, but later games gave it the ability to inflict bonus damage based on the foe's ice resistance instead.

It casts [[Crackle]] when used as a tool in battle. In the NES version, it cannot be purchased anywhere, but has a {{fraction|1|256}} chance of being dropped by [[Armful]] and a {{fraction|1|128}} chance of being dropped by [[One-man army]]. The sword can be sold for 11,250 gold.
*In remake versions of the game, it can be purchased at [[Damdara]] at 23,000 gold and can be sold for 17,250 gold.

It can be purchased for 21,000 gold at [[Precaria]] and sold for 10,500 gold.

The sword's description states that it deals extra damage to those weak to ice. The bonuses are calculated as: no resistance=150% damage, 20% resistance=130% damage, 67% resistance=115%, and immunity=normal damage calculation. Though the precise bonus damage would be adjusted slightly for each subsequent game, this is the standard ability the blade has in all following appearances.

After attacking, it inflicts 50% of the damage dealt as ice-elemental damage. If the target is defeated by the initial blow, then the bonus damage will be redirected to a different target. The extra damage will also apply for all slashing-based skills, as well as [[Frenzy]] and [[Mercurial Thrust]]. It can be purchased for 21,000 gold at [[Despairia]] and sold for 15,750 gold.

It can be sold for 14,500 gold, but item collectors may not wish to do so due to its rarity.

This sword also teaches the {{Hero Swords}} the [[Master Stroke|Tundra Sunderer Master Stroke]].  It can be tempered into a [[Wrath of Boreas]].

The Blizzard blade is an A-rank sword that can be received as a reward for completing the Crack-type Equipment: Ultra stage of Elemental Equipment. It has an ATK bonus of +11, a max HP bonus of +36, and increases the wielder's Crack-type potency by 2%. It has three slots for Alchemy Effects.
