==Etymology==
*The Japanese name for the {{MFamilies}} references [[Jamirus]], one of the four Dread Fiends to the Archfiend [[Mortamor]]. Whether there is a direct relation between the dark gryphon species and [[Jamirus]] is up to the player's imagination.
::The name change for the overseas versions of {{VIII}} was likely made due to there being no international release for {{VI}} at the time, and thus the vast majority of players would not understand the reference to the series' most infamous [[Jamirus|griffin]].
