Disruptive Wave is a recurring skill in the DQSeries. Introduced in Dragon Quest III as a MFamilies-exclusive attack, it nullifies all stat changes, such as those caused by buff abilities such as Kabuff and Oomph, debuffs such as Kasap and Deceleratle, and Tension. It is typically known by major bosses and is almost always used by the final bosses, making the use of stat changing moves futile in such battles if one's luck is unrelentingly bad ==Appearances== ===DQ3=== Used by Zoma, as well as some of the superbosses such as Xenlon and Gran Dragon. The 2024 remake allows the players characters to use a similar skill called Ripple of Disruption by reaching level 43 with a Martial Artist, and it costs 12 MP. ===DQ4=== Disruptive Wave is a technique used by MFamiliess such as Estark, Foo Yung, Psaro the Manslayer, and Aamon. However, the Hero 4 can unleash this by using the Zenithian sword as a tool in battle. In the remakes, Disruptive Wave is one of the special abilities that the Psaro 9 can learn. ===DQ5=== Disruptive Wave is learned by recruited King slime Rs at level 18. Saber can also learn it at level 33, and Starkers learns it at Level 10. As in IV, the Zenithian sword can unleash this effect if used as a tool in battle. King Korol, Grandmaster Nimzo and Estark can use Disruptive Wave in their boss fights. ===DQ6=== Disruptive Wave can be learned by any character in the Hero vocation when they reach rank 2. This is the only way to learn the ability, as the Sword of Ramias instead casts Oomph when used as an item in battle. As far as bosses go, Dhuran, Mortamor and Nokturnus have access to Disruptive Wave. ===DQ7=== Learned via the Hero vocation as in VI, but also by reaching rank 6 of the Druid vocation in the PSX version and rank 3 in the , or rank 7 of the Paladin vocation in the version only. It is superior (and cheaper) than The Great Leveller as it covers more effects. ===DQ8=== Disruptive Wave is used by most of the later story bosses, starting with Dhoulmagus. ===DQ9=== Disruptive Wave is learned with 42 skill points allocated into Enlightenment skill. It costs 10 MP to perform. It is worth noting that Disruptive Wave acts slightly different in this installment as it now only affects the opposition when used by a character or a monster. This makes debuffs viable against many bosses since they can't use the ability to clear them away. This isn't used as heavily by the story bosses (only King Godwyn and Corvus uses it). However, several of the Grotto bosses and all of the legacy bosses will use this ability. ===DQ10=== Sages learn an ability similar to Disruptive Wave called Clear Your Mind, by investing 100 points into their Enlightenment skill. It costs 10 MP to cast, and blasts a wave in a cone in front of them, removing positive status effects of any enemy hit. Demon Swordsmen can learn Disruptive Wave with 70 points invested into their Wave skill. It costs 6 MP to cast, and functions similarly to Clear Your Mind. Several boss-level enemies also use this skill in battle. ===DQ11=== Disruptive Wave is a Pep power that can be used by Rab when he is pepped up and has mastered Clear Your Mind and the Hero 11 has mastered Unbridled Blade. It is also used by various bosses, including Jasper Unbound, Mordegon, Lord of Shadows in his final form, Mordragon, Calasmos, Overweening Pride, Nelgelas, the End of Time, and the Timewyrm. ===DQM=== Called DeMagic in this game, it requires the MFamilies to reach level 20 with 100 max MP and 140 Intelligence. It is naturally learned by DeathMore (Final form),Mirudraas (Transformed) and Zoma. It can also be learned by monsters with Surge and UltraDown. ===DQM2=== DeMagic now requires 252 Intelligence to learn. It is naturally learned by PsychoPiz, Orgodemir (Transformed) and Warubou. ===DQMCH=== Stub ===DQMJ=== Disruptive Wave can be learned from various skill trees. *Cleanser (100 points) *Cursader (60 points) *Dhoulmagus (34 points) *Diamagon III (30 points) *Estark (100 points) *Mortamor (100 points) *Nimzo (100 points) *Rhapthorne II (51 points) ===DQMJ2=== Disruptive Wave can no longer be learned from Cursader, and Rhapthorne II now only requires 44 points. ===DQM3D=== Stub ===DQM23D=== Stub ===DQMJ3=== Stub ===DQM3=== Disruptive Wave costs 60 MP and is learned via the Baramos, Cool Customer, Dhoulmagus, Estark, Fuzzy Thinker, Mordegon, Lord of Shadows, Mortamor, Nelgel the Netherfiend , Nimzo, Nkturnus, Orgodemir, Razerburn, and Rhapthorne talents. ===DQMSL=== Stub ===DQH=== Psaro 9 can learn the ability when he joins for 8 skill points, and the skill only strips buffs from its targets instead of all stat modifiers. It costs 8 MP to use. He will also use it against the player in the battle against him. Additionally, Tension is not reduced when used. ===DQH2=== Stub ===DQStars=== Stub ===DQRivals=== Stub ===DQTact=== Frigid Wave was originally an enemy-only skill that can be used by various bosses, particularly on harder difficulties. Zoma can also learn it through Talent Blossoming. It costs 76 MP to use and removes status changes from all enemies in a large rhombus area. Starting with Version 3.0 of the game, the boss variant was renamed to Extra Frigid Wave in order to differentiate it from the version that Zoma can learn. This version only costs 42 MP to use and affects the entire stage. ==Related skills== *Ripple of Disruption ==Trivia== *The refers to Zoma's ice magic, as he was the first to use the skill. *In the initial English version of Dragon Quest VIII, it was referred to as a Wave of Ice, a literal translation of its Japanese name. Subsequent releases, such as the Cell phone and Nintendo 3DS versions, have changed it to Disruptive Wave. ==Gallery== <center><gallery> DQX Disruptive Wave.jpg|Zoma using Disruptive Wave in X. </gallery></center> clear DQSkills
