It incorporates both versions of the original, Iru's Adventure and Luca's Journey, into a single game while updating the titles to the standards set by DQMJ. It was released in Japan both as a digital download on the Nintendo 3DS eShop and in retail stores on February 6, 2014 with 803 monsters for players to wrangler. On August 6, 2020 it was re-released for Japanese smartphones under the title of Dragon Quest Monsters 2: Iru and Luca's Mysterious Key SP (ドラゴンクエストモンスターズ2イルとルカの不思議な鍵SP) with about 100 additional MFamiliess, including some from Dragon Quest XI. This increases the total number of available monsters to over 900, the series record. ==New Features & system alterations== *Players can select Iru or Luca to be the protagonist at the start of the game. *The scenario has been changed so that the island's plant life is now rapidly withering, rather than the whole island slowly sinking into the ocean. *Super G-Size monsters are introduced to the game, taking up all four party slots. *The Montner system was added for player customization. The Montner system (Monster + Partner) lets players mix and combine four different parts to make an original monster that they can bring with them on their adventure. *Negative traits such as Late Riser, Timid, and Yellow-Belly have been abolished. *The children can now perform several gestures to different effects: :*Whistling to kite monsters towards them. :*Shouting to frighten unaware monsters, causing them to drop items as they flee. :*Dancing to make monsters boogie and slip past them more easily, also exposes mimics. :*Jumping to leap over damage areas such as lava or poison. :*Crouching to avoid pursuing monsters. *Iru and Luca can now wear different outfits, and the sibling who stays behind at the ranch will occasionally change their clothes as well. *Weapons can now be reworked through a forging system. Now players can go to a blacksmith and use materials collected to forge different weapons, and also add effects to them. *After beating the game, players get access to additional customizing features such as making personalized slimes. *In the Nintendo 3DS version, there are no random world keys till post-game. These keys can be traded via StreetPass. *An app that allows transference of monsters and data from Terry's Wonderland 3D to Iru and Luca's Marvelous Mysterious Key. In order for the app to be usable, both games need to have clear data (beating the game). *Professor Monster, a specialist in new monster species fusion, a new addition which can only be found during the post-game. ==Wi-Fi Game Features== *The Newly Judge Points system: Depending on whether or not weapons are equipped, the behavior of the monsters in battle, and many other factors is what effects the amount of Judge Points the player will get. ==Characters== *Luca *Iru *Solitaire ==Gallery== <center><gallery> DQM2_3DS_Box.png| DQM2 3DS World Master Guide V Jump.png| DQM2_3DS_Cobi_and_Tara.png| Tara and Cobi.png| DQM2_Slime_MoriMori_Bosses.png| Monster Parade group.png| DQM2_3DS_artwork.png|Village scene.
