The user's wrist is protected by a guard shaped like a dragon's head, with gold details, red jewels set like eyes, and a pair of curved horns. The blade has four grooves on each side. In the HD-2D Remake games, its name was changed to Dragonsbane claws and it is classified as a claw. *The design introduced in Dragon Quest VIII is closer to a conventional longsword that shares animations with all other swords. This version is similar in appearance to a scimitar, featuring a green blade with curved metal edges, a red grip on the handle, and a dragon's fang on the sword's pommel. The sword's crossguard is a stylised dragon's head with red jewels for eyes and two curved golden horns much like the previous design and the sword also had various gold decorations on the blade and handle. True to its name, it deals extra damage to monsters of the Dragon family and stacks with skills such as Dragon Slash and Flame Slash. ==Appearances== ===DQIHD=== ===DQ2=== The Dragonsbane has an Attack bonus of +50 and can only be equipped by the Hero 2. In this game, it does not inflict any extra damage to dragons, contrary to its description in modern versions. It can be purchased for 8,000 gold from Dirkandor, Beran, Slewse, and Burrowell, and it can be sold for 6,000 gold. It also has a 1 chance of being dropped by Silvapithecus. ===DQIIHD=== ===DQ3=== The Dragonsbane has an Attack bonus of +79 and can only be equipped by the Hero 3 and Warriors. It can be bought for 15,000 gold Manoza and sold for 11,250 gold coins. The sword starts to deal extra damage in this game, but instead of the familiar +50%, it instead deals 16~32 extra points of damage, calculated separately from normal damage equations. This means that the effects of Oomph will not increase the range to 32~64. Affected monsters: *Blue dragon *Boreal serpent *Dragon zombie *Dread dragon *Ethereal serpent *Gran Dragon *Green dragon *Infernal serpent *Skelegon *Wyrtle *Wyrtoise *Xenlon ===DQ3HD=== ===DQ4=== The Dragonsbane has an Attack bonus of +90 and can be equipped by the Hero 4, Ragnar, and the ninth party member. It can be bought for 15,000 gold coins in Rosehill and Riverton and sold for 11,250 gold coins. IV codified the percentage-based effectiveness of the sword, and allowed for the bonus damage to be effected by Attack augmentation. It can be purchased for 15,000 gold from Whealbrook (third generation) and Precaria. The dragonsbane multiplies damage differently depending on which version of V is being played: in the original SFC version, it uses the standard 1.5 multiplier, 2.0 in the PS2 remake, and 2.25 in the DS and mobile versions. Effected monsters: *Black dragon *Drag-goof *Drag-goon *Dragon zombie *Drakenstein *Great dragon *Lick-o'-flame *Mandrake major *Mandrake marauder *Mandrake marshal *Mechan-o'-wyrm *Metal dragon *Sizzard *Small fry ===DQ6=== The Dragonsbane has an Attack bonus of +95 and a Style bonus of +35 (+55 after it's been upgraded), and can be equipped by the Hero 6, Carver, Amos, Terry, Lizzie, and Goowain. It inflicts 50% extra damage to dragons. It cannot be purchased anywhere, but it can be sold for 11,250 gold coins or 11,625 gold coins after it's been upgraded. One is found in a treasure chest on 4F of the Pillar of Pegasus. It costs 2,000 gold to upgrade it at the Fashion Forge. It also has a 1 chance of being dropped by Hell gladiator. It can be purchased for 20,000 gold at Buccanham and the Den of the Dwarves in the present and sold for 10,000 gold coins. It deals 1.5 times more damage to dragons. Dragonsbane can also be won as a prize from the Lucky Panel at the Buccanham Casino. ===DQ8=== The Dragonsbane has an Attack bonus of +72 and can be equipped by the Hero 8, as well as Jessica if she has at least 30 skill points into her Knife skill. It inflicts 30% extra damage to monsters of the Dragon family. It can be purchased for 11,000 gold in Orkutsk and Tryan Gully and sold for 6,000 gold coins. It can be upgraded into a Dragon slayer in the Alchemy Pot. *In the Nintendo 3DS version, it can also be used by Red if she has 59 skill points in her Knife skill. ===DQ9=== ===DQ11=== The Recipe Book 11 More Dragony Designs contains the recipe for the dragonsbane. It is found in a treasure chest on Mount Pang Lai. ===DQDai=== The Dragonsbane appears in Chapter 77: "Super Dragon Army, Fierce Attack!!!". It is a famous weapon, capable of piercing dragon scales, and is being auctioned off at Bengarna's department store. The sword is said to be valued at over 15,000 gold, matching its price from the then-recently released Dragon Quest IV. However, just as the auction for the dragonsbane is about to begin, an army of Hydras and Green dragons attacks Bengarna. The dragonsbane's owner eventually relents and allows Dai to use the sword, letting him easily dispatch the dragons on his own. *On November 21st, 2021, Square Enix held a special auction for items related to Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai for a select number of attendees. The eighth item auctioned was a replica of the Dragonsbane, with a starting bid of 180,000 yen. Eventually, the winning auction was 3.1 million yen. ===DQMJ=== The Dragonsbane has an Attack bonus of +41 and deals an extra 25% damage to monsters of the Dragon family. It can be purchased for 4,700 gold from the item shop at Fert Isle and sold for 2,350 gold. It can also be dropped rarely by Green dragon and Nardragon. ===DQB2=== The Dragonsbane increases the Builder's Attack by +52, it can be crafted with 1 unit of dragon scales, 2 gold ingots, and four iron ingots at an anvil. As in most games, it deals 150% damage to dragons. ===DQH=== The Dragonsbane has an Attack bonus of +93 and can only be equipped by Terry. It can be purchased for 18,000 gold on the Stonecloud after the events at Dawnsholm and can be sold for 9,000 gold. In this game, it does not deal any extra damage to dragons. ===DQH2=== The Dragonsbane has an Attack bonus of +105 and can once again only be equipped by Terry. It can be purchased for 32,040 gold from the weapon merchant once the party reaches the Ad Hoc Encampment. ===DQTreasures The Dragonsbane is Treasure No. 85 in the Weapons category and has a base value of 3,200,000 gold. ===AHB=== Although the dragonsbane does not appear as a weapon in the game, there was a soul crystal available bearing Dai while he wielded the dragonsbane in Bengarna. ==In Other Languages== ==Gallery== <center><gallery> DQII Dragon Killer.png|The dragonsbane from Dragon Quest II.
