The Japanese name for the executioner's axe seen in ''IX'' is written as はおうのオノ in hiragana, which is also the name of the [[conquerer's axe]]. The weapon was given a different name by the localization team for the English release of the title, possibly as wordplay to tie it to the [[headsman's axe]] of which it is an [[Alchemy|alchemical]] improvement of.

The Japanese name for the weapon in ''J2'' is 大魔神の斧 (daimajin axe), and the name has exclusively applied to the axe since its debut.
