The garish garb is a recurring piece of clothing in the DQSeries. It is a gaudy set of clothes typically reserved for sillier characters that provides a surprising amount of protection. ==Characteristics== The garb has had a few distinct designs over the series history. In the illustration for the Famicom version of III, it is a long purple coat with yellow fur lining decorated with five-pointed stars and fringe. The female gadabout wears it over a blue leather ensemble, red stockings with a zigzag design, and pink-pointed heels. She completes the look with an outrageous bouffant hairstyle, crescent moon earrings, a variety of belts, bracelets, rings, and necklaces, along with a blue star on her cheek. In the illustration in the Super Famicom version of III, the garish garb is now a long pink star-spangled coat accessorized with various embellishments and decorations. In VII, the garish garb is now a long orange coat with rounded sleeves slashed to show indigo fabric underneath, a bushy fur collar around the neck, and a pair of lime-green sashes with repeating purple triangle designs hanging from the waist. The design was altered slightly in IX, with the coat now featuring a purple zigzag design at the end of the sleeves and the robe's hem, along with only a single green sash hanging from the waist. ==Appearances== ===DQ3=== The garish garb has a Defence bonus of +28. It can only be equipped by Gadabouts and can be purchased for 1,300 gold at Persistence and sold for 975 gold. Garish garbs can also be dropped by goodybags. One set can also be found in a treasure chest on the 5th floor of the Pyramid. In the NES version of the game, the garish garb is the armour with the highest Defence bonus for a Goof-Off, excluding female-only equipment. ===DQ3HD=== ===DQ7=== The garish garb has a Defence bonus of +28 and a Style bonus of +35. It can be equipped by the Hero 7, Ruff, and Sir Mervyn. It can be purchased at GrΓΆndal for 2,500 gold and sold for 1,250. One set can also be found in Greenthumb Gardens in Burdock's mansion in the past, as well El Ciclo and Aeolus Vale in the present. Garish garbs are also dropped by Delusionists and Captain catastrophes. ===DQ9=== {{DQIXEquipment |header= |name=Garish garb |icon= |description=Ta-daa! Its base value is 250,000 gold. ===Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai=== In the 1991 anime series, the garish garb makes an appearance as one of the many outfits that Leona tries on at Bengarna's department store before she eventually settles on a set of wayfarer's clothes. The design resembles the illustration for the Famicom version of III. ==In Other Languages== ==Gallery== <center><gallery> DQIII_Garish_Garb.png|The female gadabout from Dragon Quest III wearing the garish garb DQIII garish garb.png|The garish garb from Dragon Quest III DQIII Goof Offs NES.png|The female gadabout wearing the garish garb in the manual art for the NES version of III Garish garb treasures icon.jpg|Treasures icon DQDai 1991 Garish Garb.jpg|Leona wearing the garish garb in the 1991 anime </gallery></center> ==References== <references/> fr:Tenue voyante
