The Jawtoise is a basic monster vocation in Dragon Quest VII. ==Description== The Jawtoise is a monstrous cross between a sea turtle and an alligator. It offers a moderate increase in Strength and a great increase in Resilience, but severe drops in Wisdom, Style, max HP, and max MP. It learns various spells for supporting the party, as well as the useful Harvest Moon for offense. Mastering the vocation is necessary in order to become a Seasaur or a Dingbat. ==Resistances== In the original Sony PlayStation version, a character that has become a Jawtoise has a high resistance to instant death, sleep, dazzle, confusion, Fizzle, poison, and paralysis, as well as a slight resistance to Woosh-type spells from ranks 1 to 7. At rank 8, they will also gain a slight resistance to Frizz, Sizz, Bang, Crack, and Zap-type spells. *In the Nintendo 3DS version, a character that has become a Jawtoise is very susceptible to paralysis and becoming stunned, and is more susceptible to confusion. They will have a slight weakness to sleep, poison, Fizzle, Sap, and instant death. However, they have a slight resistance to dazzle and Woosh-type spells. At rank 8, their susceptibility to paralysis improves slightly and they will also gain a slight resistance to the other attack spells. ==Monster Heart== A character can become a Jawtoise by carrying a heart in their inventory and going to Alltrades Abbey 7 to change their vocation. A Jawtoise Heart can be found in a treasure chest on B3F of the Den of the Dwarves in the past. More can also be won as prizes by playing the Lucky Panel game starting from the Casino at Pilgrim's Rest in the present onward. Finally, the monster heart can be dropped by fighting jawtoises at the Sunken Citadel in the past or from the Coral Cave in both the past and the present. They have a 1 chance of dropping their hearts, lowering to a rate of 1 from the second time onward. * In the Nintendo 3DS version, it is easier to obtain a heart by creating a custom Traveller's Tablet with a jawtoise as one of the monsters. ==Stat Changes== {|width="50%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2" border="1" style="text-align:center" |width="25%" valign="top" style="background:#4682B4"|Statistics |width="25%" valign="top" style="background:#4682B4"|Change |- |Battles to Master |125 |- |Strength | +10% |- |Agility | Null |- |Resilience | +20% |- |Wisdom | -30% |- |Style | -30% |- |Max HP | -20% |- |Max MP | -10% |} ===Abilities=== {|width="90%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2" border="1" style="text-align:center" |width="5%" valign="top" style="background:#4682B4"|Level |width="20%" valign="top" style="background:#4682B4"|Title
(PSX) |width="10%" valign="top" style="background:#4682B4"|Learns |width="5%" valign="top" style="background:#4682B4"|Battles Needed |width="15%" valign="top" style="background:#4682B4"|Target |width="50%" valign="top" style="background:#4682B4"|Info |width="5%" valign="top" style="background:#4682B4"|MP |- |1 |Shellementary
(SlowPoke) |Nothing |0 | | | |- |2 |Shelliable
(SoftShell) |Buff |10 |One Ally |Raises the defence of one ally. |3 |- |3 |Exshellent
(Snapper) |Nothing |18 | | | |- |4 |Shellebrity
(HardShell) |Kabuff |40 |All Allies |Raises the defence of all party members. |3 |- |5 |Shell Raiser
(ShellHead) |Nothing |60 | | | |- |6 |One Shell of a Guy
(DarkTurtl) |Oomph |85 |One Ally |Doubles a single party member's attack power. |6 |- |7 |Bestsheller
(ShellShoc) |Body Slam |100 |One Enemy |A body blow that deals damage to both slammer and slamee. |0 |- |8 |Exshellsior
(HellShell) |Harvest Moon |125 |All Enemies |A leap followed by a fierce flurry of blows that damage all enemies. |0 |} ==Trivia== * In the Nintendo 3DS version, the names of each rank are all puns on the word "shell". ** The accolade for rank 8, Exshellsior, is a pun based on the Latin word Excelsior, meaning "ever upward". ==References== <references/> DQVIIClasses
