'''Madding Cloud''' is a recurring skill in the {{DQSeries}}. It unleashes a sinister mist over the battlefield that reverses recovery and other beneficial effects for a few turns. Any healing spells, skills, or items used while it is active will inflict damage instead, and fallen party members cannot be resurrected.

Madding Cloud is an enemy-only skill used by [[Mordegon]] during his boss battle at [[Heliodor Castle]] in the third act. It eventually clears after a few turns. When used, the in-game text states that Mordegon "envelops the area in a purple mist!"

Madding Cloud makes its debut, reversing the effects of restorative spells for both enemy and ally alike for four turns. This also includes HP restored by weapons like the [[Miracle sword]] and automatic HP and MP recovery. However, it is still possible for the Master to use recovery items during its effects. The skill costs 55 MP to use and lasts four turns of battle. It is also possible to cancel the effects of the mist by using either [[Disruptive Wave]] or [[Lingering Malhaze]].

Starting with this game, it is no longer possible to cancel out the effects of Madding Cloud with Disruptive Wave or Lingering Malhaze.

Madding Cloud can be used once again by Mordegon in his boss battle. However, in this game it simply blocks all recovery effects instead of reversing them. It is still possible to use [[Yggdrasil leaf|Yggdrasil leaves]] to resurrect party members and cancel out negative status effects during the effects of the mist.

* Madding Cloud's English name is a pun based on the phrase "far from the madding crowd", which means to be removed, either figuratively or literally, from any large group of people or the bustle of civilization. It is derived from the 1750 poem "Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard" written by English poet [[Wikipedia:Thomas Gray|Thomas Gray]]. Madding means to be frenzied or raging.
