The '''oaken staff''', also known as the '''oak staff''', is a recurring weapon in the {{DQSeries}}. It's the weapon the {{Hero 5}} from ''[[Dragon Quest V]]'' is seen wielding in his official artwork. It has gone on to become the most basic [[Wand Weapon Family|wand]] for spellcasters.

The oaken staff has an attack bonus of +9. It can be purchased early in the game at [[Whealbrook]] for 130 gold, and can be equipped by the [[Hero (Dragon Quest V)|Hero]] and his [[Hero's son (Dragon Quest V)|son]].  [[Honey]] has the staff as part of her equipment.

The oak staff has an attack bonus of +3, a magical might bonus of +2, a magical mending and style bonus of +1, and increases the wielder's weight by 2, as well as having a MP absorption rate of 2%. The staff can be equipped by [[Mage]]s, [[Armamentalist]]s, [[Sage]]s, and [[Druid]]s. It can be crafted with woodworking.

The oak staff is a D-rank staff that can be acquired as a reward for completing the Staves: Intermediate level. It has a WIS bonus of +6 and two slots for Alchemy Effects.

This is the only time the protagonist of a numbered entry in the series is illustrated without a sword as his weapon, and is a subtle allusion to the true identity of ''V's'' legendary hero.
