The octophant is a recurring MFamilies in the DQSeries, first appearing in Dragon Quest IV. As its name states, it is a bizarre cross between an octopus and an elephant. ==Characteristics== Oddball octopi that swim to the surface only when the tides are at their most turbulent and truly in turmoil. They have evolved a long, strong trunk that's useful for sucking food from the ocean floor, but also for slapping at enemies. Their immense size means that they can launch themselves into the air with all eight legs and land on enemies with a dangerous trampling attack. In the Dragon Quest Illustrations: 30th Anniversary Edition book, the octophant appears with a purple and orange coloration and red eyes. However, this coloration would be used for the devilfish in the NES version of the game, while the octophant was colored light blue and green. When the octophant returned in VII, it has its purple and orange coloration again. ==Appearances== ===DQ4=== ===DQ7=== {{DQ7Enemy |name=Octophant |kanji=ダゴン |romanji=Dagon |sprite= |hp=350 |mp=0 |exp=180 (PS1)
270 () |gold=98 (PS1)
147 () |attack=170 |defense=102 |agility=75 |tameRate=1 |bestiaryNumber=#279 |spells=None |skills=Recovers 20 HP per turn.
Tramples the Party 7 (50% damage to entire Party 7.)
Hustle Dance
Fishy Fog |locations=Ocean near El Ciclo. For centuries, he was believed to be represented as half-man and half-fish, but the depictions were actually that of a Kulullû, an ancient Mesopotamian mythological creature with the head, arms, and torso of a man and the tail of a fish. However, many depictions of Dagon in popular culture are based on the fish-man interpretation, such as the horror novella The Shadow Over Innsmouth by H.P. Lovecraft and the tabletop RPG Dungeons & Dragons, which depicts Dagon as the demon prince of sea creatures with an appearance that combines the features of an octopus and a fish. ==Similar species== *Elepus *Devilfish ==Gallery==
<gallery> DQIV Octophant NES.png|NES art.
