The '''pointy hat''' is recurring piece of headwear in the ''Dragon Quest'' series. It is typically a low to level hat that provides a decent amount of defence.

==Characteristics==
This unusually-designed hat has a rounded dome shape with a pointy tip at the top, somewhat like the shape of a [[Slime]]. As it appeared later in the series, the hat became beige-colored with a brown stripe near the top and the tip is colored yellow. Originally it was designed for use by monster companions, but it can also be equipped by other characters who typically cannot wear heavier helmets. In ''XI'', the pointy hat can only be worn by male characters.

The pointy hat has a defence bonus of +21 and can be equipped by [[Priest]]s, [[Gadabout]]s, and [[Sage]]s. It can be purchased from [[Theddon]] and the shop at the third [[Treasures n' Trapdoors]] near the [[Shrine Jail]] for 2,300 gold, or otherwise sold for 1,725 gold, and only appears in remake versions of the game. Compared to other games in the series, the pointy hat provides a surprisingly high amount of defence and is the best piece of headwear for Gadabouts.
