A rarefied monster is a type of monster introduced in Dragon Quest X. They are unusual looking pallet swaps of monsters that cannot be found on the overworld, instead only appearing alongside their more common variants. A monster becomes rarefied under different circumstances related to its species, but each one is immensely more powerful than its peers and can spell disaster for an unprepared party. ==Appearances== ===DQ10=== Rarefied monsters were first added to the game in the 1.1 version update, and have a 1/256th chance to appear. The first set of rarefied monsters were handpicked by the development team from fan submissions after advertising the feature online and in magazines several months prior to the update, and many later additions were also developed by fans. The original seven rarefied monsters are: *24-carrot bunicorn *Antiquitree *Pink bonbon *Shadow noble *Sham hamwitch *Spiked club *Wireman An item to increase the odds of encountering a rarefied monster, the Kiseki no Perfume (きせきの香水), was added in the 2.0 update. The perfume raises the encounter rate to 1/32nd for thirty minutes, and can be purchased from a Casino for 1,500 tokens. With the 3.0 update, bottles can also be won in various Treasures 'n' Trapdoors boards. ===DQ11=== There is no accolade for finding and defeating all rarefied monsters, and there are no malicious or vicious versions of these monsters. Equipping the Circle of Serendipity or Wings of Serendipity will increase the odds of encountering rarefied monsters by 3% and 8% respectively, which replace the default encounter rate of 1/256. The former is the reward for turning in 75 Mini medals at L'Académie de Notre Maitre des Médailles and the latter is the prize for completing the hard version of the black cup at the Gallopolis sand national race. *24-carrot bunicorn *Brodysseus *Brollympian *Clockwyrm *Fortune filcher *Golden globe *Harmachis *Leviathing *Lunar chimaera *Platinum poppet *Snooty slime knight *Type G0 *Ursa panda *Wight bulb Stub DQXNav DQXINav fr:Monstre rarissime
