Rex is a formidable helmsman with decades of sailing and combat experience. The captain has seen better days, though, and he struggles to maintain his ship as he constantly hearkens back to the past. Despite his terminal case of nostalgia, the captain remains upbeat and hopeful in the present day, and so he'll throw his effort and loyalty behind even [[Hero (Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2)|a shabby stowaway]] and a patchwork crew.
==Relationships==
Rory Bellows is Rex's best friend, as they both discuss their adventurous friendship at youth. After being told the rookie had seen Rex's ghost, he stated he couldn't believe his closest friend would be dead.

It is also possible Rex had a close relationship to Melonie, saying after hearing her scream his first thought was to protect her at all cost. Melonie as well said she was grateful Rex was alive.
