'''Tongue Lashing''' is a breath attack in the {{DQSeries}} that first appeared in {{Dragon Quest V}}.

It tries to give a single enemy goosebumps by licking them - in other words, incapacitate them for a single turn, preventing them from doing anything until the next one. 

It can be especially irksome when used by groups of enemies that know this technique, as they can chain them together and prevent one or more characters from doing anything for each turn of the fight, lowering one's overall offensive power and preventing healers from healing when needed.  

The [[Sultry Dance]] and [[Leg Sweep]] are similar to this ability.

Tongue Lashing was retroactively added to the 2024 remake as the initial skill of the [[Monster Wrangler]]. It costs 3 {{MP}} and has a 60% chance to stun a foe for one turn before resistance is applied.

Making its first appearance in this game, enemies such as the [[poxtongue]], [[toxtongue]] and [[lindworm]] like to use it.

Tongue Lashing can be learned by several monster companions, such as the [[minidemon]], while {{MFamilies}}s like the [[walking corpse]] start with the ability already learned. It does not cost {{MP}} to use.

Tongue Lashing is learned by [[Spot]] at level 4. Other characters can learn it by advancing to rank 3 of the [[Gadabout]] vocation. 

The {{MFamilies}} [[Lips]] also made their first appearance in this game, with this {{MFamilies}} being arguably the most associated with this ability due to their characteristically large tongue and their early appearance [[Mountain Pass (Dragon Quest VI)|in the very first dungeon]] of this game, where their usage of this ability can be a real nuisance, sometimes even a fatal one, due to the lack of {{Party 6}} members.

[[Walking corpse]]s also use it.

Tongue Lashing can be learned by advancing to rank 6 as a [[Jester]] in the original [[Sony PlayStation]] version, and at rank 5 in the {{3DS}} version, as well as rank 2 as a [[Lips (vocation)|Lips]].

It is used by [[tongue fu fighter]], [[tongue fu master]], [[Rainiac]], [[lips]], [[smacker]], [[wet kisser]], [[ulcer]], [[orglob]], [[floating bloater]], and [[blighted bloater]].

Returns as an enemy-exclusive skill. The only {{MFamilies}} in the entire game that uses it is [[Lips]], as not even its stronger pallet swaps that appear in this game ([[kisser]] and [[smacker]]) use the ability this time around, preferring to use [[Blow Kiss]] and [[Tongue Bashing]].

Called LushLicks in the Eidos localization, this ability can be learned by various {{MFamilies}}s. It requires the {{MFamilies}} to be at least level 7, with at least 55 {{HP}}, and 67 {{Agility}}. It is learned by the [[Antguzzler|anteater]], [[Damselfly (DQVI)|fairydrak]], [[Maulusc|giantslug]], [[Walking corpse|hork]], [[Lips|lipsy]], [[Killer gila|poisongon]], [[Ghost|spooky]], [[Mottle slime|spotslime]] and [[Poxtongue|tonguella]].

Monsters can learn Tongue Lashing through the [[Anaesthetist]], [[Naturalist]], [[Outlaw]], [[Prankster]], [[Super Naturalist]], [[Sweet-Talker]], [[Tongue Twister]], and [[Toxicologist]] talents.
*Tongue Lashing was nerfed on December 27 2023 with the v1.0.3 update patch lowering the stun chance to 60%, before enemy resistance is applied
