The '''Tortoceratops''' is a recurring {{MFamilies}} in the {{DQSeries}}.

Introduced in {{Dragon Quest V}}, it is a quadrupedal, dinosaur-like monster with a spiked body.

==Characteristics==
The Tortoceratops and its pallet swaps are stout looking {{MFamilies}}s that take inspiration from the Nodosauridae family of Ankylosaurian dinosaurs. They lack the distinctive tail club to mark them as true ankylosaurids, but they do sport crested frills and nose horns reminiscent of Ceratopsians. The family also bears a striking resemblance to the Toho studios monster [http://giantmonsters.wikia.com/wiki/Anguirus| Anguirus], especially considering the Tortoceratops' similar brown and gray hues. The Tortoceratops can also fly by retracting its limbs and expelling fire from the sockets, allowing it to spin and ram into enemies at high speeds like [http://giantmonsters.wikia.com/wiki/Gamera| Gamera], as shown in the video below.

After a long absence the spiked behemoths return in the tenth entry in the series, only they are classified as members of the [[Beast family]] despite clear saurian traits. Additionally, they now make use of [[Pincushion]], retracting their limbs into their shell like the first half of their namesake and putting their scutes to good use.
