The '''jackanape''' is an infrequently appearing {{MFamilies}} that debuted in {{Dragon Quest III}}.

The jackanape and its relatives are vicious hybrids of baboons and gorillas that stand approximately as tall as a [[human]]. They take their temperament from the former, reacting violently at even the slightest provocation. Just like real primates, jackanapes travel in troops and won't hesitate to call for help when wounded.

The Jackanapes bear a striking similarity to the Oozaru transformations from [[Akira Toriyama]]'s manga ''[[Dragon Ball]]''. Their name is also from "jackanapes", a monkey that was leashed as a pet.
