The buntzenberner is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, first appearing in Dragon Quest X. It is an elemental monster made from purple and black flames.

Buntzenberner is a variant of the dancing flame whose body is made up of flames in different shades of purple, with black flames closer to the center of its body. Compared to its fellow flame elementals, the buntzenberner specialises in casting various debilitating and weakening spells and inflicting negative status effects. The only way to truly defeat a Buntzenberner is by stealing their Buntzenberner Heart with a Thief's Half-Inch ability.
