The '''Ruinous shield''' is a recurring shield in the ''Dragon Quest'' series. This [[cursed]] black shield features an ominous design with multiple eyes similar to those found on the [[Mad cap]]. True to its name, equipping this shield will typically cause the wearer to take increased damage from many sources. In later games, it is possible to remove the curse from the shield with the use of [[Alchemy]] and some [[Saint's ashes]].
