The rune staff is a recurring weapon in the Dragon Quest franchise. First appearing in the 16-bit remake of the third game, it was a one-handed wand that could save casters a large amount of MP by duplicating the effect of the Kabuff spell for them. As of the tenth game, the rune staff has become a two-handed wand that can paralyze a foe when striking.

It is found in the treasure room in Aliahan Castle, which requires the magic key, and can be sold for 5,100 gold coins.
