Now known as Softwort, it still cures paralysis and restores around 60 HP to a single character, being consumed upon use. It can be purchased at the item shop in Bloomingdale for 96 gold coins each and sold for 47 gold coins. Softwort can be collected from Slurry Coast on the southernmost point of the beach or can be found randomly in the fountain at a fully upgraded Quester's Rest. It combines the effects of a moonwort bulb and strong medicine, curing the effects of paralysis and restoring around 60 HP to a single party member, being consumed upon use. In games where Alchemy is a mechanic, it can be created by mixing strong medicine and a moonwort bulb together. It can also be purchased from item shops and dropped by monsters in some games, as well.

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King[edit | edit source]

GameDescription
Restores 60 or more HP to a single ally and cures the effects of paralysis.[1]

Known as Rose-wort in this game, it can restore 60~80 HP to a single ally and cures the effects of paralysis, being consumed upon use. One can be found in a pot in the Herb Grotto, although most will be made with the Alchemy Pot. Rose-wort can be sold for 148 gold each for the first 5 sold, then reduces to 104 gold for the 6th to 10th sold, then drops even further to 45 gold from the 11th sold onward.

It can be created two different ways in the Alchemy Pot and can also be used to create an even stronger restorative item:

Dragon Quest X [edit | edit source]

Softwort's efficacy has reduced slightly in this game, only restoring 30 HP and curing paralysis for a single party member. In the game's offline mode, it can be created through Alchemy with the familiar recipe of strong medicine and a moonwort bulb. It can also be picked up from sparkly spots and can be dropped by Rhinoceraxes.

 • In the Offline version, the recipe is changed to mixing two moonwort bulbs together.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age[edit | edit source]

GameDescription
Cures an ally of paralysis and restores at least 60 HP. Consumed upon use.[2]

Softwort once again restores 60 HP in this game, along with curing paralysis, and is consumed upon use. It can no longer be created, but it can be purchased from nearly every item shop and roving emporium starting from Nautica in the first act onward for 95 gold each and it can be sold for 47 gold. Bundles of softwort can be found in Gallopolis, Lonalulu, and Phnom Nonh. It can also be dropped by Man o' wars and their vicious counterparts.

Softwort can be used in a single recipe for the Fun-Size Forge:

Dragon Quest of the Stars[edit | edit source]

Softwort cures paralysis and restores around 30 HP to a single party member, being consumed upon use. It can be created by mixing two medicinal herbs and two moonwort bulbs together at the item workshop. Occasionally, it can be received as a reward for completing certain quests.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

 • The term wort is a word from Middle English which simply means "plant". In botany, it is used in combination with other words to refer to various unrelated plants, particularly those formerly used to cure diseases.
