Midenhall, also known as Lorasia, is a castle located in northeast Torland, and is the starting location of Dragon Quest II.  It is one of the three kingdoms established by the descendant of Erdrick and Lady Lora. Midenhall is the home of the Prince of Midenhall, the main protagonist of Dragon Quest II, and is the starting and ending point of the game. At the beginning of the story, a wounded soldier arrives from the kingdom of Moonbrooke to tell the king of the events of Hargon's attack on his cousin's castle.

Often thought to be the most powerful due to the strength possessed by the Prince of Midenhall, it is where the wounded solider from Moonbrooke goes instead of Cannock which is much closer.
Midenhall is a castle located in northeast Torland, and is the starting location of DQ2.

Staff of Thunder
It is one of the three kingdoms established by the descendant of Erdrick and Princess Gwaelin, as well as the oldest.
Midenhall has a jail that houses an Evil Clown (a Magus in the Game Boy Color remake) that will drop the Princess of Moonbrooke's best weapon, the Staff of Thunder.

If sold, you can receive another one through saving and resetting, and then fighting for the Staff again.  Though both remakes remove the trick allowing for only one Staff.

At the beginning of the game, a wounded soldier arrives to tell the King of Moonbrooke of the events of Hargon's attack on his cousin's castle, Moonbrooke, setting the plot of the game into motion as the Prince of Midenhall sets out to save the world from the insane cultist.

Other treasures
Upon leaving the throne room at the start of the game, The King gives The Hero a chest containing both a Copper sword and 50 gold coins.  The chest will only be there until the area is exited, thus being possible to miss.

Much later on in the game, The Hall of Hargon will take the form of Midenhall when first entered. The NPCs speak as if the kindly priest Hargon has made peace with the nation, swaying them to his cult and imploring the three cousins to do the same. In order to dispel the illusion and put an end to the madness, the player must use the Eye of Rubiss.

Teleportal
Middenhall houses the first Teleportal in the series, transporting the player to a small island just next to Zahan. The area is too small for the player to explore, and is just a teaser hinting at the scope of the adventure.

Teleportals
Mark of Erdrick
Midenhall contains the first travel door to ever appear in the Dragon Quest series.
The Mark of Erdrick is obtainable from the treasure room after getting the Golden Key.

Midenhall's dungeon houses a wrecktor that will drop the Princess of Moonbrooke's best weapon, the lightning staff.

Locked Doors
In the NES version of Dragon Quest II, the Wrecktor will revive after the player saves and resets their game, allow them to pummel the monster over and over to sell duplicates of the staff at a massive profit. This handy exploit was removed in all other versions.

startMidenhall appears on Moonbrooke island in ruins, located in the grassy plains of Rendarak and taking the place of where the Hall of Hargon should be, as a result of the game being set in Hargon's illusory world. The Builder, Warwick, Anessa, Gerome, and most of the Moonbrooke Brigade of Guards (although the soldiers are not strictly necessary) storm the castle to find the Orb of Heroes, and is surprised when they see mindless visions of people from long past still performing their daily routines, greeting the Builder as if they are the Prince of Midenhall. When they reach the throne room, they talk to who is presumably the King of Midenhall, who is overjoyed to see his "son" and praises Hargon for his mercy, for not allowing his "son" to die on his journey. He is stuck when he attempts to remember the quest he entrusted to the prince, and says that "'Twas folly... folly... " and repeats "folly" eight more times like a broken record before disappearing in particles of white and blue. The visions of the people around the throne room also disappear, and the party runs down to the center of the area in disbelief. When the last person disappears, the Wrecktor appears in front of them, blocking their exit. It taunts the party about impending doom and illusions for a while before summoning in two knight abhorrents and four vis magers behind it, and it says that the hated humans should die now; all except for one person, who it beckons forward. Rewatching the cutscene will show that the very same person is not shocked by the Wrecktor's appearance, nor do they draw their sword with the others; that person is none other than Warwick himself. Warwick takes his turn mocking the party, talking about his traitorism to the kingdom, before the Wrecktor is satisfied with this show and turns him into a silvapithecus. The party then swiftly defeats the monsters, with the Wrecktor dropping the Orb of Heroes.

Monster
After the battle, Anessa talks to Warwick, and he musters up something vague about visions and his reason for betrayal before he disappears in purple particles. When talking to the Wrecktor, his speech mentions Moonbrooke's defences, which Gerome takes notice of. Anessa, who had questioned Warwick about taking all of the guards to Rendarak prior to the raid, tells the Builder to hurry and return to Moonbrooke castle. There, they see that the fortifications have been severely damaged by what seems to be the remains of the Scare Force, and Anessa realises that it was part of Warwick's plan to leave the castle undefended (although this is not strictly true if the player chooses not to have other soldiers with them). Whether or not the players brought soldiers with them to Rendarak, every resident that is able to fight is teleported to the very front of the fortifications and a battle ensues.

Etymology
*The name Laurasia derives from Princess Gwaelin's Japanese name Laura. She and the Hero 1 from Dragon Quest traveled to new lands after the events of Dragon Quest.
:*Laurasia was also the name of the real-life super continent that dominated the northern half of the world 200~180 million years ago.

Notes
* The kingdom of Midenhall is often thought to be the most powerful kingdom due to the wounded soldier from Moonbrooke going to Midenhall instead of the much-closer Cannock.
The name Lorasia derives from Lady Lora. She and the hero from Dragon Quest traveled to new lands after the events of Dragon Quest. Lorasia is likely one location they founded as it is also ruled by one of their descendants.

The first floor of Hargon's Castle is initially an illusion of Midenhall.  The Rubiss Charm is necessary to dispatch the illusion and proceed to Hargon's throne room.
