They achieve this with their knowledge of the spell Kerplunk, making them bothersome opponents when attempting to dispose of a large group of monsters.
Bomboulders are reddish animated [[Material family|boulders]] known for casting [[Kerplunk]] to fully revive their fellow monsters. However, they spend just as much time in battle watching and waiting, occasionally stopping to build up their strength or launch themselves at an opponent while cackling. Occasionally, the bomboulder will be more of a magenta colour, such as in ''Dragon Quest VII''.
